[RS] Boycott Against Battlefield 3 Is Underway - Page 23

And it's not just the fact that they're bonuses either, it's the fact that they're weapons. Now I understand that they're not going to unbalance the game with a few small things, but at the same time, they're not just copying another gun and all its stats and then reskinning it. That's what you normally get in a multiplayer game if you pre-order: new skins. Something that in absolutely no way can affect gameplay. Now if I don't pre-order it, I wouldn't care if I didn't get the special gold guns or super cool avatar or different skins, but if I will never be able to use an in-game weapon because I wanted reviews to come out before I played, I'd be pretty pissed.

Second off here, your comparison makes no sense in this situation. Once again I feel like this is a misunderstanding that stems from not reading the article, but the correct example would be if the salesman offered something that could potentially change the performance of the car (ie not a jacket) and then was told that he couldn't buy the part unless he pre-ordered a car (note that this isn't just he can't get it for free if he doesn't pre-order it, it's that there is absolutely no way he can acquire the part, even with money).

I'm pretty sure people would be happy if they made it a paid DLC ($5) even a month after the game came out, just like the maps. They did it with SPECACT and people bought those... and they're not even new weapons, just reskinned weapons and four more loadouts, nothing that could potentially (keyword right there) screw up gameplay.

Thank you for noticing this.
Like someone has said, the M1 Garand in BC2 is still unavailable to some people.

Its a weapon that some people have and some dont.

Why doesn't it screw up gameplay?

Well, like I've said before and contrary to what you are saying, DICE balance many of their weapons by basically taking a carbon copy of one weapon and then tweaking it slightly to give a slightly different "feel" or aesthetic.

Take the aforementioned M1 for instance.

The Garand is basically a re-skinned M14 (which everyone gets) in terms of stats, but:

-the sights are different on the Garand (better on the M14 imo).

-the M14 can have red dot+acog attached to it.

-the Garand has lower mag capacity.

That's just ONE example of how they can add an additional weapon that will in no way unbalance the game, given that the Garand gives no discernible advantage in performance apart from personal preference or if someone just wants to be shooting with a Garand instead of an M14 because they like the style etc.

We dont even KNOW the stats of the weapons in BF3, yet people seem to "know" that having these extras will make them uber or give them any other bonus other than being able to choose an extra weapon.

How do we know that this T-88 wont be the same? Carbon copy from another weapon stats with lowered values here and there and a different skin. Just so that people who really wanted a T-88 can shoot people with a T-88 regardless of its performance?

Its really stupid imo and this whole stupidness is ruining the good run that BF3 is having at the moment for no really good reason as far as I can see.

And buying a better car gives you the edge at the drag strip...

OMG Who would have thought, life isn't fair and spending more money can give you an advantage?!?!?!

Marketing gimmick - the people who pre-order, especially this far in advance, give the publisher an idea of how much traction the game is getting with gamers. Getting more people to pay full (launch) price for their game instead of buying it 6 months later for half price or less isn't a marketing gimmick, it's just marketing. If someone isn't going to buy it before launch with this much warning, what indication is there that the same people will pay full price soon after? None. It isn't a gimmick if the compensation for early adoption makes a measurable difference, which it obviously will judging by the uproar.
They are already compensated by getting the map pack and weapons "free(by preorder)" we just don't think that the weapon options should be preorder only... sure free for preorder but at least give us an option to buy them later.

Actually they aren't spending more... its the same price but they don't pay for map pack.

Weapons aren't a big deal.. but the flash supressor and flachete rounds are... you can't "carbon copy" those.

Just hats and other cosmetic stuff, it didn't really bother me much. I was on the fence though about buying a $60 game that consists of a few hours of shooting portals and that DLC made the decision for me.. I did enjoy the first one a lot but I will wait for the second one to come down in price or get a deal.

The thing with these DLC scams is that it will not be the major deciding factor of someone purchasing the game, but if they are on the fence about buying it and looking for pros vs. cons, the DLC can send you to make a purchase decision of waiting for it later when its cheaper.

@ xJumper: funny then how the people spending less will get more content, and those people spending more still can't get all of the content anyway. Your point makes absolutely zero sense.

Is this serious? Who cares if a few extra items are available? Its not like they aer going to make you lose or the other player better. They might have an advantage before you get your first unlocked weapon but $10 for a few days of slight advantage isnt a big deal. I probably wont get the DLC.

Also I joined BC2 like 6 months ago, guess what it was like starting out with NO GUNS or anything vs people with everything unlocked and who knew the maps and were used to PC FPS? Yeh I had some trouble at first, but the game was so awesome it didnt matter.

So I think if you ***** about this DLC you should also ***** about unlocks because they provide a much larger advantage over people for a longer time since not everyone is on an even playing field. (I actually dont advise this, this is sarcasm, as in mocking you).

These people have been waiting so long for Bf3 to come out and then they want to cancel their preorder because of a gun, an attachment and an ammo type?

Really?

I will assist in purchasing the extra copies.

Thanks
Don't really care. I'm pre-ordering anyway.

Yes, players can still get the M1 even if they didn't pre-order the game. How hard is it to make an account on the BF1943 demo or BFHeroes or BF Play4Free and get your veteran score to one?

Also, you do agree that they're different, then? It's not just a reskin? Because then you just proved my point, they're giving something that is different and could potentially change the gameplay of some players.

I think you missed when I said it's all about potential. You saying that it's not going to screw up gameplay is using the same assumption that I am using, just on the other end... and don't give me that "they told us it wouldn't" crap. It wouldn't be the first time a game developer has tried and failed at doing something.
