Question about i7-2600k overclocking with my new computer.

Thread Starter
Hello everyone ,
I've recently bought the following computer:

CPU: Core i7-2600k
CPU Cooling: Noctua NH-D14
GPU: Asus GTX 570 Direct CU II
Memory: 8 GB Kingston 1333 Mhz CL 9
PSU: Corsair 850W TX
HDD: 1 TB Caviar Black Sata III
Motherboard: Asus P8P67-M Pro B3
Case: NZXT Guardian 921 RB
24' Monitor: BenQ G2410HD (2 MS)
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I haven't overclocked anything yet, but I'm willing to overclock the CPU, and I'm new to overclocking (I have never done it before).
My question is: With this CPU cooling/motherboard, will I be able to get up to 5Ghz on the i7-2600k (or close)?
*There are probably a lot of things I don't know about overclocking. I'm currently looking for guides and am trying to learn about it.

Thanks in advance,
Coreliyon.

you might be able to. it's like 20% chance you'll be able to. you'll just have to try and see... search the forum for the how to on the i7.

It really depends on the CPU. Either you get a good one, mediocre or bad one.

What do you mean? All processors are different...?

Yes they are very different when it comes to overclocking. Some needs 1.25v for 4.6GHz others need over 1.4v for 4.6GHz.

they all over clock differently, some can reach certain clocks with ease whilst others need more V's and/or may not be able to reach high clocks.

Oh... I see... And how do I check mine? (If it's even possible to check that).
Do I just have to test it by overclocking?

Only way to be sure is by overclocking and stability testing. If you're not in for it, then don't overclock.

Prime95 Blend for 12 hours + is the best way to check stability for Sandybridge.

Alright, thanks a lot. I'm going to look for guides before I overclock. Guess there are lots of things I need to know before doing it, since I don't want to end up blowing up the CPU...
