it's normal and is common. Just reapply thermal paste and enjoy the card

Every GPU/Motherboard I have ever had has slopped on thermal paste that's dry and hard, its pretty common...

As far as the little ding in the IHS, I doubt it will cause too much trouble...

You could RMA it through EVGA, they don't void warranties for removing the heatsink.. But sounds like a big headache for no reason...

I agree. Very common. There really isn't enough poeple who care that much to make the vendor change. I remeber lapping my H50 and reading about how it woud cost way to much to the vendor to lap it themsleves and that lapping wouldn't void the warrenty in anyway. Just put it under some nice easy things for us to improve our products.

That dent in the heat spreader won't cause any problems. If you are putting a waterblock on it why does the stock TIM matter?

Hahahaha, are you for real?
Are you really crying about a itsy bitsy tiny dent in the heatspreader?? (it's not even the chip)
And stock cooling paste is terrible with every brand i've come across.

If im not mistaken isn't all the important stuff towards the center anyway? Like if you look at the pic in OP, most of the actual chip is centered around where the text is on the Heat-spreader. So there's a good chance that ding doesn't even touch anything underneath.

Don't worry about it, EVGA will correct these issues on the next BIOS update. Throw on some TIM, block and enjoy the card.

^ It called a "Joke" like his complaint of EVGA quality. All so if you read BOFH.

It is pretty much standard procedure to replace all thermal paste on everything as soon as you get it.

The IHS is stamped out of a metal sheet by a big press...if they buffed out all the little nicks it would add $50 to the price of every card. This IHS likely comes from Nvidia and not Evga, though.
