z68 chipset MOBO with iGPU suggestions

Hi guys,

I'm trying to build a rig for support for nvidia surround with three monitors at 2500x1600 resolution. (DO NOT WANT 3D)

CPU: i7 3.4 GHz 2600k (will be OC'ed to around 4.8-5.0)
GPU: Two GTX GeForce 580 3GB MSI

Can anybody suggest the best gaming z68 mobo available right now, price is not a factor. Keep in mind I intend to use this machine for transcoding as well, which is why I am going z68 at all. Please help, thanks guys.

If you plan on gaming at decent settings you're going to need at least 3 580's - most high end Z68's don't include the integrated gpu, and the ones that do don't support more than 2x GPU's (which I again don't recommend as you're going to be struggling heavily with 3x 2500 x 1600 monitors)

ASUS P8Z68-v is really the only Z68 mobo out right now that is "high end" that supports SLI, I would just go for a high end P67 board such as the WS Revolution as the iGPU isn't going to help you as much with trans-coding as you would think.

If price is not a factor, I think it's between two boards:

Prices - Depending on where you are:
P8Z68 DELUXE ($250) and P8Z68-V PRO ($196)

They might be a few more dollars than that depending on location/taxes etc.

I would choose the V-Pro (12 phase) although the other one is 16-phase.

The Pro has all the other same features I believe... you have Intel LAN and the dual SLI x8 X x8... all three options of video output...etc.

You can compare boards on their comparsion page:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...omparison.html

Also, both Asus boards use UEFI BIOS so I think that is a plus, also. Asrock should have a board out Extreme6 that could be an option as well.

Edit: Apple3g's point is pretty good. All the Z68 boards seem to have some issue or intangible (could put an asterisk beside them!) that you need to keep in mind.

My two cents.

I thought it was reviewed to be quite a difference.

But perhaps atm there's no z68 that fullfills his wishes completely.

Yeah that is what it seems like, all the high end MOBOS from Gigabyte don't even include support for the iGPU. My only choices seem to be the Asus P8Z68 Deluxe like you said.

I really wanted the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7 but it does not support iGPU

Research the Asus boards first, though. There are certain configurations that disable various ports (PCI or PCI-e x1) so if you have a sound card that uses a PCI-e slot, you will want to know for sure that it's not disabled.

Asrock's Z68 board has a PLX bridge which gets around the problem.

If you use onboard audio then this isn't an issue or applicable.
