Asrock Extreme4 P67
Supports ATIâ„¢ Quad CrossFireXâ„¢, 3-Way CrossFireXâ„¢ and CrossFireXâ„¢
Supports NVIDIA® Quad SLI™ and SLI™

3 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (PCIe 1 and 2 operate at x16 in single mode or x8/x8 in dual; PCIe 3 operates in x4 mode)

The psu seems to be of decent quality but for 2 cards I would opt for more Wattage. Nice single rail modular psu.

http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...ply-guide.html
I'm very much a novice at hardware...but even more so with regards to PSU's. Are the PSU's eskamobob and walsrus recommended single rail modular...whatever the hell that means!!!???

Also, what are your thoughts regarding overclocking this machine? SOmeone else had said they wouldn't recommend it since it is used for business. I plan to get the machine fully stable before losing it to my wife as her new photo editing PC... I think I will have to test BF3 out on it alot just to make sure

This will be my first time OC'ing (and building a rig) a cpu so I'm guessing I will be more than happy with 4.2.
Eskamobob, thanks for taking the time to look all that up and post a recommendation. Why did you decide on the HIS brand 6950 as opposed to another brand?
Lastly, do you guys think this system will handle BF3???? I'm buying this for my wife's photography business....at least that is what I tell her...but I will definitely be gaming on it...
lol... i personally wouldn't stick with stock cooling if you want a good OC... i have seen people get a 2600k up to like 4.4GHz stable on a hyper 212+ (the 4.2 on stock are suicide runs for the most part)... i picked that GPU because it is cheaper than others without sacrificing quality... if you realy want an amazing quality GPU then go with ASUS (im cinda loyal though )... the system i recommended should handle BF3 perfectly fine... probably be able to use high graphic settings just fine

modular PSUs mean you dont attach the the cables you are not using... and almost all PSUs in that watt range will be single rail... if you were going for tri-fire or something i would recommend more than one rail... but even for 2 2GB 6950s, a single rail will be perfectly fine

if this machine will be used by a large company, dont OC by any means... if it is for personal use, OC the hell out of it ... and this machine should run stable at 4GHz and a decent GPU and RAM OC just fine... once again, that should get prity good FPS on BF3 on prity good settings

Thanks for the info again Eskamobob. I will probably go ahead and get the cooler you recommended just to be safe. I have heard alot of good things about the DH-14 as well. Never going for tri-fire I don't think so the PSU you recommended should be fine...or perhaps I will get the one with more wattage just to be safe. Like I mentioned before I have alot of USB powered devices I have hooked up at one time (external drives, headphones, mouse, card reader, etc.). Not sure how much current those items pull but a little more wattage woudl be safer than just barely enough I would think. Thanks for the info regarding the HIS. I have never used their cards but have been very happy with my Sapphire brand so I was just asking. i'm not necessarily loyal to any brand...as long as it works good, is reliable and doesn't break the bank...I'm a happy man.
This machinee would be used by our growing photography business. I just want to make sure the system will be stable adn won't crash when doing any photo editing or video editing or gaming...

the DH-14 is an amazing cooler (probably the best air cooler on the market), but it costs twice what the one i recommended does... also, USB devices pull hardly any power... you can go with a bigger PSU if you want, but i would recommend sticking to corsair, XFX, or seasonic... HIS and sapphire are at the same quality level (witch is prity high), and it will serve you well ... you could easily get a mild OC (3.8-4.0GHz) 24/7 stable... the only reason it was said to not be overclocked for business is that it could break business codes if i had to guess... if you ever plan on getting a second one of those cards i would get the 750W just to be safe... anyways, good luck man

Thanks for the info Eskamobob. If I can achieve higher overclocks with the Noctua cooler, I will probably invest a bit more money and get that...if you think it will fit. I know the ram is tall and the cooler is large...but I know nothing about the case you recommended. Will everything fit in there okay if I get everything you mentioned except get the Noctua DH-14 instead? Newegg has them on sale for 79.99 right now I believe I read...

Anyone have strong feelings towards this case? Will it work with the build eskamobob stated above?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811156063

Or, is there a case that lends itself to cable management better than others? Also, alot of fans is nice. I don't know the first thing about cable management so any advice people have would be great. I don't mind spending a little more on a case if it will help ease my cpu building. this will be my first rig I have built so a noob friendly case would be good... My only concern with the case you stated Eskamobob is that it seems quite large...but maybe that is what I need? Thoughts anyone?

Hey... The case that I recommended probably will not fit the nh-d14... In fact it is on the small side... If you want a case with good cable management and lots of fab power, I would recommend anything from the HAF series by coolermaster... My favorite out of the series is the 932, because it has the best air flow for it's size that I have found... It is also extremely easy to water cool if you eventually go this path... The best airflow case I have ever found is the HAF X (942), but it is absolutely huge and weighs like 30 lbs unloaded... I know that the 932 and the 942 will fit the nh-d14 for sure, but you will have to check on the 912 and 922... All but the 912 is quite a big price jump, but i will promiseyou get what you payfor with this series... The case that you linked to doesnt have any resounding reviews and the 912 is the same price... I'm sure there are other options out there, but I only like to recommend products that I have worked with, and out of all the cases i have worked with (that aren't crazy expensive) the HAF series is the best for air cooling

EDIT: the nh-d14 will get you much higher clocks... Also, (ik this is getting expensive) I would check out RASA water cooling kits... If you don't mind upkeep and a decent bit more learning about water cooling, the 240 and 360 versions will grant you much better clocks than the nh-d14... The 932 and 942 are also designed to accept a 360 rad inside... Also, if I'm nit mistaken, both the 922 and 912 will accept a 240 rad inside (will someone please verify this?)

Thanks again Eska. The HAF 922 was recommended to me the first time I asked about building. They suggested it in conjunction with a DH-14 so maybe that will fit. I guess I shouldn't sweat the case size too much as it will not be moved. Sounds like I should look at the 932. Wow, that is a big jump in price though. If I OC my 2600k on air only...being a quad core machine when so many 6 and 8 core processors are coming out, how future proof do you think this rig will be? I'm specifically thiinking about upcoming versions of photoshop and such. Once I get the components, I'm going to need guidance building the unit as well as OC'ing it. So OCN will be seeing alot more of me and my noob questions! Thanks again for all your help Eska, I really appreciate it.

Thanks again for all your help Eska, I really appreciate it.
lol... its np ... and as far as 6 core or higher CPUs, there is not much of a way to predict it... photo and video editing always do better with more cores... but unfortunately, right now you are going from a $1500 comp, to a $1000 CPU... with a good OC of at least 4GHz, i would predict that it should hold its ground for at least 2-3 years (probably quite a wile longer)... and 4+ GHz should be no problem with the NH-d14... and trust me, ik about price jumps... i had to get the 850W PSU for a recent rig and it was almost a $100 jump from the 750W
