New Build - First SSD - Any advice welcome

Hello to everyone, I am building a new system that will be used for audio work and would like some advice on choosing a boot drive.

I am currently looking to buy only one of the 3 SSDs below due to budget limitations :

OCZ Vertex 2 60GB vs OCZ Agility 3 60GB vs Crucial RealSSD m4 64 GB

- My major requirement is realiability. There is a report here on SSD failure rate:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/4202/t...d-510-review/3

that shows that OCZ has the largest failure rate.

There are many reports on newegg that reports failing Vertex 2 SSDs after only a few months. Also, on the OCZ forum there are many Agility 3 performance/slow speed claims by users due to the new controller used and the way it handles data (OCZ says that a new update will be out soon)- so Vertex 2 seems to be faster for now. Also, there are the BSOD/and not recognising the SSD issues due to the new Sata 6 Gb/s .

About the Crucial, it seems to be quite reliable reading on user experiences but it has low write speeds compared to the other two.

So my questions are:

As realiability is my main concern, should I go with the Crucial one instead of any of the OCZ ones even with the lower write speeds, or is Crucial just as susceptible to problems and failures? Anyone used any of the two for a long period without problems?

Currently in my buying basket I have the Crucial one, but I keep getting carried away and change it for the Agility 3 due to the read write speeds and IOPS claimed. Then I am thinking that for less money maybe I can get a more reliable OCZ Vertex drive, but then again the Crucial might be the "less problematic" SSD, if this is indeed the case.

Which should I go for?

Any advice/comments/thoughts are greatly appreciated. spf302

OCZ Vertex 3 is the best of the 3 you listed,OCZ may have a higher failure rate due to more of these being purchased than the others, and anyway, you'll have a warranty.

Corsair Sandforce 3 is what i would go for personally, now they have fixed the issues it was having, which did'nt apply to 60GB anyway.

If I were you; I'd grab the OCZ Vertex 3.

Thanks for the replies. Vertex 3 is not in my option list in the original post due to budget. Vertex 2 is. Thanks

One thing to remember is that games do not really benifit much from an SSD. The main benifit is to your operating system. For that reason, if you plan on installing your OS on the SSD and storing everything else on a regular HDD, a 30-32 gig SSD will be more than enough. 16 gigs is enough, but barely.

Would you recommend another drive other than the three above that would be as good but with less space. I will not be running any games, just some music production software. Currently I am only using around 20GB on my system hdd - so I don't mind less space for the system ssd disk, as long as it's fast enough and reliable. Thanks

Intel X-25M 40GB (If you can find one). More reliable than any of those.

Or the 40GB Intel 320 SSD.

Thanks for the reply. Out of the two Intel's you mentioned which one would be "better" ?

Intel X-25M 40GB has lower write speeds than the C300/C400 (M4) 64GB?

Same NAND, though. I'd look for sales in the Online Deals section, and grab whatever becomes affordable first.
