Monster Turbine Issue?

So I picked up a set of Monster Turbine IEMs this last weekend. I wanted a set of S4s but they were out. The salesman was happy to match the Amazon price of the Turbines so I thought I would try them.

When I got a chance to listen to them and concentrate on the sound, I noticed that I was getting a left channel dominance. Vocals that I know are supposed to be centered will sound like they're coming from the front left. There is sound coming out of the right bud, but doesn't seem to be as strong. I switched ears to check if it was an issue with the seal, and switched sources, and got the same results.

Am I missing something stupid? or are they just defective? If so and I go to exchange/return them, should I get the S4s instead? Thoughts?

It's probably just your ears if the left channel is louder regardless of which earbud you put in your left ear.

Go to an otolaryngologist and have your ears cleaned professionally. Q-Tips will just compound the wax, don't use them.

Maybe I wasn't clear in my description. My ears are fine, I can use other headphones just fine, and when I switch the right to the left, the left becomes quieter.

What I was getting at is if people think that there is a defect with the phones. I've never encountered a set of headphones that have acted in this manner (unbalanced left to right).

I came across your post while looking for info about defective monster turbines and registered on this site so I could let you know what the problem is. Its not your hearing. Its Monster. I bought a pair of Turbines the day they came out, I think that was about 3 years ago. Within 2 months I started having the same problem you are having. It gets worse though and the earbud completely stops working. luckly monster has an excellent exchange policy for defective products. I have had the same exact problem with 3 pairs of Turbines. Each pair was defective within 3 months of getting them from monster. i'm currently waiting on a fourth pair. All you need to do is contact monster and let them know you have a defective pair. Monster knows about the defect so its a very easy process. Actually I will message you the employees email at monster who has helped me everytime.

I would def think that its the ear buds, but if you dont mind RMA though monster (pretty easy and quick mine had a 3 day turn around) it would be no issue getting it replaced, if not just return to store. I have just about every earbud that monster makes (minus the turbine copper and beber ones ..gross.. and i think one or two others) but havent had this issue yet. Its not to common but i have read about it before.

What I have learned about the Turbines defectivness is absurd and if this really is the truth I don't know why the BBB or similar organization has not gotten involved. I have an Iphone 3gs and a HTC which I use my Turbines with. Apparently the issue is a tiny piece located in the 3.5mm jack that dosen't even do anything except ruin Monster Turbines because over time it damages the plug. Monster says its apple and HTC's responsability to fix the issue in their phones, but apple and HTC say its Monsters problem to fix.

interesting .. hmmm i hear about the armatures failing but havent heard what could be the cause to some of these. Is it the 90 degree jack or the straight? just curious. ill def have to look into this. tongue.gif

But for these sort of things, thats what warranties are for.ive been using mine for about 2 years (regular) and havnent had any issues with them, My gf started using my golds ( year ago) and shes pretty rough on them with no issue.. although the ones with the straight jacks can be a pain imo

Having owned two sets of Turbines (both of which eventually had the right bud die), i can attest to a left ear dominance. They sounded great, but i've been problem free with my ATH-cks70s and will not be buying another set of turbines.

I realize they are under warranty, but I'm wondering if I should stick with these or just return/exchange for the Klipsch S4s or some other model. Thoughts?
