Very informative post, Thank-you.

Sure, the FuZion v2 won't perform quite as well as more modern blocks... but we're talking a difference of a few degrees. Considering that the OP already has the FuZion v2, I don't see the performance difference being worth the cost of a new CPU block. Maybe I'm crazy--maybe I have aluminum on the brain ()... just my 2¢

Note to the OP: You may want to experiment with the standard nozzle insert and see whether or not it performs better, since the 970 is one large die (the quad core nozzle midplate/insert was designed for dual die CPUs). If you aren't satisfied with the performance of the block with either insert installed, then sell it off and pick up a newer block. There's no harm in giving it a go and then making your decision.

If you are on a budget: XSPC Rasa

If you have money to spend: Koolance 370, Aquacomputer Kryos HF (silver is the most expensive one), EK "full copper" or any copper variant, Heatkiller 3.0, Swiftech Apogee XT ver 2..

Just a quick question to Petra

I thought the i7 920 and the i7 970 were single die cpu's where as the Intel core 2 Quad core cpu's were dual dies ????.

Does that mean the Quad core insert for the DTek Fuzion v2 was designed originally for the dual die Quad cores ( lga775 ) ????.

Dave.

Yeah, the Nehalem and Westmere/Gulftown chips are single die and the Kentsfield and Yorkfield chips (which the quad core nozzle was originally designed for) are dual die. Sorry for not being more clear about that.

The EK supreme HF has lowish restriction and great cooling, but EK has some funny business practices recently (won't own up to defective products). Stay away from their nickel blocks and you'll do fine, though.

Then there's the Kryos XT and HF (or a delrin or pro with a backplate). They have the best cooling but highish restriction. They look really good IMO, best ascetics on the market.

Then there's the Koolance 370. It doesn't quite match the cooling of the other two, but it's close, relatively free flowing, and has a better mounting system.

If you want something unusual, take a look at the Ybris Black Sun.

I'm still rocking a D-Tek FuZion (v1 no less). My temps never held me back from getting a higher OC, my motherboard seems to though. I'll get a new block though when I finally give up on the 775 socket.

The v2 is just fine for what you are doing. I would be shocked if there was a 2C difference if you were to buy a new block. I used one for a couple years on my Q6700 and my Q9550, in fact I still have it around here somewhere.
