Video Card recommendation (picky)

Thread Starter
Hey guys!

I've been out of the video card loop for awhile so i need a recommendation.

Here is my system
AMD Athlon II X4 640
BIOSTAR A880G+
4gb ddr3
seagate 500gb

I need a video card that i can playback 1080p without stutter to my tv, one that can play Star Wars: the old republic very well and general the best bang for my buck.

i also need it to be energy efficent and under 75 dollars.

thanks guys!

1GB Sapphire 5670 $74.99 ($59.99 AR)
That's about the best I could do as far as "new" cards go, now if you're OK with used, then you could do a little better.

i'm fine with used, not picky there. i see a couple of gtx 260's in the market that should probably do the trick.

I've never ordered from them, but this place has refurbished 4850s for $50

Unless their shipping rates are crazy, that should meet your requirements.

A used GTX 260 would still be a better buy for another $25 IMO (given the performance difference)

i'd snag something used from here or techpowerup for sure if your budget is $75. maybe a 4870/ gtx 260 or something like that and then underclock it if you're using it solely for movies/music.
5770 is a great dx11 idea.

It performed just a fps or two slower than the old trusty 4870 in most cases. A great bang for your buck in my opinion.

Edit: you would have to find one used though. They are usually around 100 bucks. But if you find an xfx you will still have a lifetime warranty.

I know you said your budget is 75 but like someone else said that puts you in the sub 4850 range. Trust me if you can muster another 25 bucks and get a dx11 compatible card that a little more future proof you will be much happier.

Note number two is I owned a 4850 before and you would astounded at the difference of the gddr3 on the 4850s And the gddr5 memory on the 4850s and 5770s. Plus the gpu cores are so much better. You wont be disappointed with the extra 25 bucks well spent.
