New Case = 10°C Raise in CPU Temp?

Well I recently switched my rig to a new case, as you can see by this thread

Now the thing is, even after I have given the CPU a good amount of time to cure after I reseated the CPU cooler my temps are still waaay high.

Before I was hitting like 48°C Top with my room at 70°F

Now it went all the way up to 57°C and i stopped it out of fear of fire...
my room was still at 70°F when I did the test.

The Fans on this case are a lot smaller but I figured because there where so many of them it would balance out and cool about the same, well my question is now do i go back to the old case or lower my little OC I have?

Buying new stuff is out of the question, still can't find a job and still don't have enough rep on here to sell my tons of extra parts that I have accumulated over the years...

if the other case had larger fans it had more open space...which allows the hot air in the case to be exhausted more efficiently...a case with two very large fans is better than a case with 4 very small fans, unless of course the 4 small fans push more air than the two big ones. it all comes down to cfm and open space...

with an increase in temps i would try to apply tim again but be more gentle with it (use less) and then try again...if nothing else, throw it back into the old case and if the temps go back down then it was your case for sure...

You honestly think that a CPU would simply burst into flames? LOL

It would shut itself down LONG before that.
I know... That was just my attempt at being a smart a**

Well that is the thing, the old case has less open space but large fans, the new case has tons of open room but instead of 4 large fans like my old one, it has 7 Small ones. That is why i don't know what to do...

Heh heh. rolleyes.gif Of course it would, my computer catches on fire all the time. Just kidding, usually temps with stock fans are not to impressive. Even if more air is supplied. Try getting a cheap aftermarket cooler.

So they are giving out Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2s stock now, when did this happen, lol

Yea i already have a cheap cooler...

If I had money to paypal you, I would. Every time I see someone use the Freezer 7, I cry.

It's just not a good cooler for anything more than a dual core. I mean, if you really want to get technical it's not a good cooler, period. Since you don't have any money like the rest of us here, the most you can do now is just a cleaning of your heatsink/TIM.

Make sure all the dust is out of the heatsink and fan, and then reapply the TIM using a small dot. Because for TIM, less is more.

If those are the fans that came with the case they might not be operating as well as the used to and not shifting very much air.

Is there anyway you can mount that cooler facing towards the rear exhaust fans?

That cooler is a pretty poor performer though if you're using anything more than a dual-core. If you want a decent aftermarket cooler that's dirt cheap try the Coolermaster Hyper TX3.

I use one on my girlfriends Athlon II X3 and it keeps it nice and cool.

The Rocketfish is just a re-brand of the TX3 and you can get one for about 10 shipped, which is a steal. biggrin.gif

well for one my mind is blown, i did not know you could get a decant cpu cooler at that price eek.gif

and secondly, how much different is this thing compared to the FP7?

Same number of heat pipes, same size fan, and i actually have my FP7 set up Push - Pull....
Can't entirely say for sure beyond the anecdotal results I've gotten in my personal usage but the consensus seems to be for the TX3/Rocketfish Rebrand in this thread and through googling.

http://www.overclock.net/air-cooling/555763-cm-tx2-vs-cm-tx3-vs.html

Not to mention the TX3's heatpipes are of the HDT variety so they directly come into contact with the CPU which I would imagine greatly aid in heat transfer.

As for the price, I was surprised as well. I've used them in a # of builds for friends and use it's bigger brother (The 212+) on my rig biggrin.gif.
