Yay for certifications! - Page 3

Congrats dude I got my a+ and network+ back in 2002/2003 I was actually in a CCNA academy when i got my net+ There good to have but I have been finding out that "Work experience" is more important Just don't be discouraged keep it up! It took me till 2006 to actually get a job working with computers and it was very basic but it was something to put on a resume. After that I was working sales at Circuit city till they closed and i worked my way up to lead firedog tech (was also work at a local tech shop after hours) and now im working at a law firm on a IT support team I manage everything from IDS/IPS systems to terminal servers to exchange servers you learn as you go but if you want it bad enough it will happen!

The sys admin and IT dept. stuff is a little beneath that in terms of salary. for what that's worth
No, my minor is Information Assurance and I'm looking to get into security/forensics. I would take any job within that field really, it just seems that every employer wants prior experience but there's no entry point for me to gain any. I was hoping a couple certs would help with that some, we'll see.

Ya thats the problem with the workforce today, you have to have experience to get an IT job, but you can't get experience because you don't have any and the loops continues. I suggest trying to find an internship at the least to get that experience on your resume. Thats what i had to do. I had a IT internship (unpaid for 5 months sucks) just so i could get something on there. And now i'm getting a lot more responses back for interviews i think because it shows i have experience.

Also, don't listen to the guy that said having an A+ is worthless. Every little bit counts to make you more presentable. And from what i'm noticing, most helpdesk jobs prefer people with an A+ at least.

There is no real difference between the LPIC-1 and Linux+ other than who handles the testing. I know this because in getting my Linux+ for my job, I was granted LPIC-1 and Novell Certified Linux Admin certs as well. Just different companies with their own take on the test.

QFT. A+ helped me get my job with the Dept of Defense. It's better to have it and not need it than to not have it at all.
