All I'd do would be productivity and web-surfing, with which the SU2300 would still usually be the better choice (despite being very crappy and old).
I agree that gaming on Laptops/Netbooks is a horrible idea, and my Lenovo X120e rarely ever gets used for gaming purposes, but it's nice that it can.

Also, I doubt that whatever old Laptop/Netbook that SU2300 is in gets as much battery life as the new E-350 machines. Even if the older processors are faster, they're not as energy efficient and don't run as cool. I'd much rather have a slightly slower brand new laptop than a beat up few years old lap burner.

I would go to best buy and see what they have to offer. They usually have some really great basic toshiba and asus laptops for $299-$399. That will probably be your best bet, unless you find something that suits your needs in the OCN mobile computing for sale section.

I would honestly save up a bit more and buy something higher-spec'd. Very few laptops (and no "netbooks") are up to the task of "light gaming" unless you can live with horrid fps.

I'm inferring that you care about gaming performance though. But if gaming performance would be a "nice to have, but not necessary), then I'd just get whatever is in your range that gets good reviews. I would not go with the tablet though. It's not a bad piece of hardware per se, but if you find yourself needing something beyond web, email, and google doc's, you'll be kicking yourself.
