Anyone know if steam is going to see any of these packs? It's the maps I'm most interested in... Not really looking forward to having to pay extra, after just shelling out for the game.

If they put it up for preorder then you'll get the maps.

Q: Why do you offer pre-order bonus items?

A: Because we believe in rewarding our core fanbase with special offers -- such as giving them the Back to Karkand expansion pack at no extra charge.
Giving them the back to Karkand pack is fine. I have, and I'm sure others too, no problems with this. This is perfectly fine and a good incentive to preorder.

However creating exclusive content is just a shambles. The sting is in the exclusive part. I don't understand why they feel the need to do other, apparently, "non-core fans" a disservice by excluding them from original content (that's on the disc/patch). Those guns and equipment should be available to everyone who buys the game. Simple as that. I had to download the Vietnam pack before I could carry on playing BC2 when they released it. Which was very annoying as I didn't own that map pack at the time. So, basically, these exclusive weapons will be on everyone's machine whether they like it or not. Meh, I'll say it again, everyone should get that equipment.

EDIT:

I'd much prefer this over Steam if possible myself. I think I'll be staying clear of this Origin thing for some time given EA's track record with dissent!

Personally, I don't really care for battlefield, but would be pissed if I can't play a map with friends because I didn't pre-order the game.

you dont have to, you have the option to buy it at a later date.

They dont even have a release date for the DLC yet. It could be 0 day, it could be 1 month. But you will have the option to buy it at some point after release if you didnt preorder.

By preordering, you not only get the DLC for free when it comes out. You also get a couple free weapons.

If you are on the fence, wait for the beta and preorder then if you like it, that way you know if you will want the full game, and still get all the DLC for free.

apparantly viridian didnt put me on ignore, like he claimed. Thats sad.

please tell us how it isnt that simple, rather than trying to troll. Be helpful or intelligent in the thread, and it might not be closed.

If you have your own theory, then you should by all means post it, not simply act smug.

On an interesting note, Jens Pulver an MMA fighter has always talked about playing COD, but he played battlefield and was pretty hyped about it.

Good to see the guy come to the light side, met him a few times, a pretty cool guy, and just got cooler.
