[Build Log] Echoes

This is going to be my new rig for a few years, except for a possible bump to Ivy next summer. It's a definite upgrade, at least the GPU, from my sig rig!
Main parts:
  • Intel Core i5 2400
  • Corsair XMS 8GB DDR3-1333
  • ASRock H67M-ITX
  • Zotac GTX 470
  • Samsung SpinPoint F3 500GB (x2)
  • Crucial m4 64GB SATAIII SSD
  • LG DVD±RW drive
  • NZXT Vulcan µATX chassis
  • OCZ ModXstream-Pro 700W PSU

WC parts:
  • Swiftech Apogee GTZ
  • Swiftech MCW80
  • Swiftech MCR220
  • Swiftech Micro Res
  • Bitspower 3/8" Barbs

I'm getting the 2400 for two reasons: 1) the 2500k doesn't have VT-d, which I plan on using and 2) the mobo doesn't support CPU overclocking, making the K part moot. The mini-ITX board is the cheapest thing I could get without sacrificing the stuff I need. Plus, it'll give me a little room to do the mod for an internal radiator without mobo interference.

Final Pics will be added to this post, but I don't think I'll be done for at least a month. Mostly because that's when the SSD will be bought

First pics tomorrow when I can get some better lighting conditions

Okay, all I've got in my hands is the CPU Hopefully, Newegg will get me my stuff by Friday. So sadly, there will not be an update till then.

It's just three pictures (not much to do with just a proc )

That stock cooler is never going to even touch the processor

These photos are nowhere near the quality some of you guys get, but I will do my best to get some decent quality.

Slight change of plans as for the graphics card: I've decided against the 470 because I'm am reasonably certain that my loop will not be able to handle the heat load adequately. I'm getting an ASUS DirectCUII Radeon HD6850 instead.

Nice Are you going with integrated graphics or do you already have a card?

Integrated, it's gonna be for a friend and he doesn't game so I figured why spend the money. Everything should be here by Friday, I'll make a build log once everything comes in. I'm gonna ask my friend if he'll be willing to dish out the money for a good air cooler so I can overclock it for him.

Also I see you spent $220 on your i5 2400, Newegg has it on sale in their Semi-Annual Sale for $190 or $180 with promo code EMCKDJF22. You might be able to have newegg customer support refund you the difference if you ask, if not you can return it and buy it on sale. If you have a Fry's or Microcenter near you both of them have the 2500K on sale for $180. Fry's also has a price match guarantee if it's not in on sale at that particular retailer. Great price IMO and you get it unlocked but you lose VT-d support.

Looking forward to seeing your watercooling setup in the NZXT Vulcan. Bet it's gonna be badass haha.

The processor is from MicroCenter, idk why they put that sticker on it
It was actually $150 (before ridiculous KS tax)
