hd6870 crossfire or single hd6970?

Hello!

I was wondering which of this two options where the best for gaming performance:

A) SAPPHIRE HD6870 1GB DDR5 x2 Crossfire ($400)

or

B) SAPPHIRE HD6970 2GB DDR5 ($360)

And which PSU should I buy to support them along with:

ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX*
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 3,3ghz
Corsair 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1600mhz
WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200rpm SATA

Thanks!

First off, add your rig. Go to User CP and find SIg RIg. Add it there.

Also, welcome to OCN.

Now to the question, 2 6970s can run and max just about everything. I have a single one now, it is beast as can be. I want to add another down the line but start with one and add another later.

What res do you play at?

If you play at 1080p or less, 2 6870's or even a single 6870 will suffice.

If you play at 2560x1600 or eyefinity resolutions, get the 6970.

I didnt buy my new pc yet, this is what I will be getting
Quote:
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX*
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 3,3ghz
Corsair 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3 1600mhz
WD Caviar Black 1TB 7200rpm SATA

I have only one 23" monitor so I would play in 1920x1080
The 6970 is too much if I only have one monitor?

Oh Thanks! biggrin.gif
This helps a lot with the decision.
How many watts should my PSU have to run Crossfire?

For 2 6850's I would say no less than a quality 650W power supply.
