SSD Cloning Question, I need your help again guys!

Thread Starter
Hey guys, what's up? I have another question for ya'll. But before I ask, here is a quick back story to get you up to speed.

I built a desktop (the one in my sig) and I included a 30GB OCZ Vertex SSD for the Operating System. A month later I bought a netbook (because now I no longer needed a powerful laptop). Last month or so I purchased a 40GB OCZ Vertex 2 for the netbook which, in all due respect, is noticeably faster than the 30GB Vertex 1 in my desktop.

So here is the situation and my question: I would like to stick the Vertex 2 in my desktop and use it as my new boot drive (I have 16GB free on my netbook, so I can slap in the 30GB with no worries). Which brings me to my question; I don't want to reformat and redo my desktop (this is just an upgrade for the hell of it). I know it isn't good to clone from a harddrive to an SSD (because the sectors are different and it doesn't align properly-or something like that). So here is my question--by this logic, can I clone from an SSD to another SSD? Or in this case, from my 30GB Vertex 1 to my 40GB Vertex 2? (or is the architecture different or something?)

Thanks again guys, I appreciate your help.

No need to bump every minute

You could use imaging software like Macrium reflect to clone the partition. dd through a Linux live disc might work too, you'll have to ask a more Linux-savvy person about that.

Haha, I am just anxious. So will a good cloning program like EASEUS take care of all the alignment for me? Do you know of a program to correct alignment problems?

Everything I've read says it's better to make an image of the drive and restore that image. I just did the same from a Corsair f120 raid to a crucial m4 with no issues at all. I used acronis true image 2011 trial.

Also, you can restore from hdd to ssd, you just have to be weary of alignment. If your first install was a fresh windows 7 instal, win7 creates correct alignment automatically. In the case of acronis, if your backup has alignment, the restore will too (just make sure you do full disk backup).

You can confirm alignment by looking at AS SSD (don't have to run the bench, just look at storage / driver- green is good, red is bad)- You can see images of both my old and new SSD setup here, post #10 (notice the green storage space indicating correct alignment)
