Great response, unfortunately, I don't see a "Watchdog" registry 'folder' under Control. I couldn't find it anywhere, actually. Are you sure its in that location? Or am I just crazy/blind?

How long have you had that card?
I had something similar with a new 6950, however it didn't turn off like yours did, i ended up taking it back after hours of tests.
Maybe it could be power issues?
OT: is that King Diamond makeup, had to ask lol

I've had the card a few months. I bought it used off this site and its been fine ever since. Its factory OC'd and I havn't clocked it any higher. But it shouldn't be the card since I replaced it with a GT240 and still gives me the same problem. The GT240 also uses alot less power than the GTX460 (there arent any power connectors needed, max 75W through PCIe bus), and I've also taken my overclock off so its using a lot less power than max. My max before was even only 400W on a 600W power supply.

OT: Yes it is! First try at putting it on...was ok. But fun

Ok, something is definitely up. Even reinstalling I'll get the black screen, in the install menu. Now I'm definitely sure its hardware related. I don't think my video card is overheating, as I've never taken the heatsink off and it's been fine in all sorts of benchmarks and months of use.

Ok so i thought something was up with my high idling cpu temp in bios, so i tried removing the heatsink and OH DEAR GOD the cpu came out with it, Being the dumb as hell AMD bracket, I was terrified for 5 minutes trying to get the other clip off while not bending pins. i got it off, bending 5 pins. now to bend them back...jesus what a mess. not my chip! buahhaa

it should be there in the registry. It schedules the threads of the video on windows. Search the registry for watchdog it should be under local machine.

Well unfortunately Spoony, I deleted my install, but I kept getting the problem even not booted into Windows (while running off install disc).

So I got the pins back and the CPU works still. At least, boots and stuff how it was before, still freezes. Tried a different CPU, GPU, and no hard drives attached and I still get it. Changed the Ram around and every stick as a single still freezes the system. But all sticks pass memtest. So it must be the Motherboard.

Buying a new one tomorrow at Frys, so if it still happens to me, I'll report back again. Otherwise, I have no idea. Maybe it's the case. Or, realistically but doubtfully, power supply.
