Overclock

Thread Starter
Im trying to overclock my PNY 8400GS. I know its a crappy card, but im determined OC it anyways. First of all, its intial clock speeds are way above what is recommended to overclock the card at, and i dont understand why. Anyways, i can increase the core speed like 500mhz(i think), and not see one little difference in anything. Then i increase the ram speend to 410mhz from 400mhz, and my whole screen goes to crap, and i get a hardware failure. Oviously im doing something wrong, and i just dont get it. What am i doing wrong? Am i using rivatuner wrong? and also, what is a safe temperature. On idle, my GPU runs at about 61C. But if i set a normal house fan pusing air into the case, it idles at about 39C. I think thats a little crazy, but thats what it says. Any help? Thanks

temp seems alright for that kind of card..and for overclock you said it;s already higher than recommended so it mightve come in a preloaded overclocked bios? what your doing is right from what you're explaining..means your card can't get bumped that high before it becomes unstable.

Honestly i cant imagine that it came pre-loaded with an overclock bios, but i guess anythings possible. Its just a 50 dollar GPU, i bought it new. Um....is there any good way to test the thing? It seems like its either no change, or unusuable. Is that just a fine line, that you have to find, and be carful of? Thanks again.
