Fixed

Mostly true. The only exception are 120hz LCDs, but even they ghost like heck.

Yeah, I said that in my very next sentence... In less words.

If you have the money for high end system,I am sure you could spare 100-200$ more for a decent monitor.
Is that the most important thing in the pc,afterall ? That is what you look at.What's the point of having a great gpu setup when you can't see what's beeing rendered properly ?
Difference in picture quality between an tn panel and ips or pva panel is enormous. If you don't belive me,check out the reviews on the internet.
And no,those panels are not slower at all when it comes to gaming. For some reason, ghosting time on tn panels are inflated. There is lot of reviews comparing ips panels vs tn when it comes to speed, and usually 8ms ips panel is as fast as 2ms tn panel.
And people who actually buy 3 or more of these monitors and set up them in surround / eyefinity ? And they think that's cool ? Having 3 crappy monitors instead of just one ? LOL.
Seriosly, people should just stop buying tn monitors all together. When manufactureres see there is no more demand for their crap, they will start focusing more on more quality panels, and they will become even more faster, better and more affordable.
Someone sounds butthurt they can't afford a 16:10 IPS panel.

Why are you using a bottom line i3 proc? A hdd and not a ssd? H61 and not P67/Z68?

People buy what they can afford according to budget. If they want a more powerful GPU they cut back somewhere else. If they want a better CPU they cut back from another part. Not everyone needs a IPS, to most TN panels are good enough.

It's like asking why don't SSD manufacturers use SLC instead of MLC. Or why can't all PSUs be GOLD standard. Some people think one or more parts are more important than others. It all comes down to what that individual values the most.

In your case you value a quality monitor so you chose to splurge on it, not all people think like you.

@OP:
So with a fixed budget, you suggest that a gamer should cheap out on other parts to be able to afford a gorgeous screen? Let me see.... 60fps+ on a "crappy TN" vs. 20fps on a super gorgeous IPS display.... chale, u mad?

*for the record, "Chale" == Dude where I come from lol

EDIT: I don't even know why I responded to this thread. I feel like I just fed an attention-seeking-ranting troll. :/. Going back to watching Criminal Minds now. >_<

Your points somewhat make sense, but you're trying to correlate things that are too far apart. A TN panel does not equal lowered AA/AF and an IPS panel does not equal maxed AA/AF. IPS is for color accuracy and not for "superior" graphics quality. This is why people who have high-end GPUs still buy "crappy" TN monitors.

Like others said, there are different wants and needs for everyone. I'm not a graphic designer nor a photographer and I would prefer more vivid and non-accurate colors from TN panels than accurate colors from an e-IPS/IPS monitor. Plus, IPS panels usually have a lower max brightness (for the "correct" brightness) compared to TN panels that have much higher brightness levels to add on to that vivid effect (which I prefer for gaming/media).

My friend got a Dell U2211h and it's really not much better than most TN panels I see in stores. Of course it's not a true IPS panel, but it's "supposed" to be better.

It's a shame IPS panels are at least twice as expensive as a TN panel (true IPS panels run for way more than their 6-bit e-IPS counterparts). Even some higher-end TN panels can "look" better than an e-IPS monitor for the same price. I would rather get 2 decent looking monitors than 1 superior monitor if they both cost the same.

the U2211H have a low quality IPS panel U2311H as well (I think the U2311 have a slightly better one but I am not sure) even thought I must say the U2311H I have is far better then my "crappy" LG W2486L the colors are far Superior the lower respond time isnt noticeable (and I heard the respond time on most TN panels are a lie anyway)...

the U2411H on the other hand has a high quality IPS panel and it also cost double the U2311 price...

anyway not all screens with IPS panels are expensivethe U2311H and the U2211H dont cost allot, the same as TN panels and they are far better...

I am gona try a surround setup soon with 3 U2311H soon (3 IPS screens )

I use an IPS panel and a TN panel. At first I used the PX2370 (TN panel) to game and thought that it would be better to get an IPS panel instead, so I got a IPS236 (not the best but still brilliant) and tried it out (duplicating BFBC2 on both monitors) and somehow the TN panel feels a lot better to game on. The IPS panel isn't lacking in performance either, 5ms response time, etc, but the PX2370 just feels alot funner, brighter and somehow more exciting to game on (granted it's an expensive TN Panel).

So, it's all down to personal preference to be honest. To me, color accuracy doesn't really matter unless you are doin photo editing. The experience does. You don't compare the color of the trees and snow in BFBC2 to photos when you are getting shot at, do you?

All right I think a lot of people have missed the point of the original post. Talking about prioritising grafics cards over some other component. So here is my take on the subject.

You have $600 budget to buy your monitor's. Do you A. buy 3 of the absolutely cheapest monitors you can find or do you B buy one good one. And then his question "why would you buy 3 bad monitors".

A better GPU gives me higher framerates, a better monitor doesn't, so I'm better off spending more money on a GPU than a monitor.

Also, a 24" IPS monitor costs way more than my current monitor, which already cost me 190€ a piece. Europe is quite a bit more expensive.
