These type of threads come along once in a while, and the consensus generally seems to be "different people have different balance priorities". That's what it comes down to. Some may say "if you're spending that much, surely you could get a better monitor", but then you're saying that about speakers, headphones, desks, chairs, sound cards, SSDs, etc., etc., etc. It isn't just the best of everything, or the worst of everything. There's so many combinations/balances, and this is just one example. Different balance priorities and such.
I concur, we always have different priorites and excuting them aint easy based on a planned budget.

I was thinking about getting 3x lcds, but I want IPS ones like Dell, Asus, or HP but might just one big 27" or 30" LCD. Currently, I have a M-PVA LCD and I want an upgrade to something better.

If some one had like a CRT, or a smaller TN panel, and a budget to upgrade to like 3x LCDs for a surround setup then that's ok. No doubt the point of going with 3x LCDs is just for the surround setup experience. But of course the exepreince can better be improved with better LCDs like IPS panels. Its about taking one step at a time.

I already agreed, I think in my first response, that IF you want to use 3d then you have no choice but to use TN panel. I am not 100% sure about this, as I don't know of any 3d 120 mhz IPS or PVA panels, and quick google search didn't find any ( I dont have time to search more there could be )

As for your EIZO comment, while these are top notch monitors, they are overpriced. I already commented that in 23-24 size range, better quality monitors are almost the same price as TN monitors. There is NO reason to buy a TN monitor in this price range, unless you use 3d, even if you dont have sli / crossfire or multiple displays.

The most expansive TN monitors that support 3d might actually be more expansive then a normal ips or pva monitor

There's no way that TN is calibrated properly. I guarantee he pulled it straight out of the box and tested it, assuming he didn't purposefully make it worse before reviewing it. Either that's a POS monitor or he tampered with it.

Obvious propaganda is obvious.

In comparision to this thread, its more like why people buy porsche then pour cheapest gas they can find in it,or buy cheapest tires or other equipment for it etc..
Like people who already have high end sli systems with multiple monitors already have porsche, they just cut short on other additions which would make their ride more enjoyable

For the same reason you don't have an SR-2 with dual Xeons, even though you may drool over the thought of having them. Because not everyone is loaded with (enough) money when they'd like to be.

For little more than the cost of ONE IPS panel I put my 3x1680x1050 array together with decent parts on sale. Why? Because I'll never have the discretionary income convenient to buy 3xIPS panels. That is life and economics. My entire sig rig is an exercise in NewEgg deal sniping and used parts.

Look at my rig. (plus I also have another 5870 acessible to me, just could never get the things to work in CF)

I got it for 350€. That includes a mechanical keyboard, a gaming mouse (razer imperator, the best for ergonomics for my hand. Tried pretty much every popular gaming mouse before purchase), two 24" LCDs, one 1920x1080, other 1920x1200, one 2048x1536 CRT as my main monitor, etc.

Lot of this stuff was given to me for free.

Just because you see someone with a good or mediocre rig doesn't mean that they spent stock price on all items in that rig. Not everyone can afford IPS and that's it.

I was fortunate enough to get this CRT for 35€. I don't know exactly how it compares to IPS since I haven't seen them side by side, yet it can do much better than my two 24" TN panels. Colors seem somewhat more natural, colors seem PURE. That's what I live about it. Blue is BLUE, not dirty blue like on TN. And the same for every other color. This might sound ridiculous when I say it here, but when you see it in person, the difference is jaw dropping, at least for me. I mostly notice it in my desktop backgrounds. The difference in games is more minimal. The resolution matters more here. Dirt 2, which is the most amazing looking game I've played (dirt 3 looks worse), looks absolutely jaw dropping at 2048x1536.

But if you do any sort of design work, IPS is a must. For a gamer, yes the difference there is noticiable, but not huge. However, I do consider it more worth it than a third card in SLI or CFX

I bought all three of my TN panels back when the 5k series ATI cards first came out to try Eyefinity and to replace an IPS panel that had died on me after a couple years of service. I had two options at the time; buy a single IPS panel or buy 3 tn panels for just a bit more and go for the added immersion of Eyefinity. I haven't looked back.

For gaming, the difference in quality is minimal. I haven't seen a need to replace them, because they have yet to give me any problems. Now when one or more of them begin acting up, I will definitely be looking at replacing them, possibly with 30" panels. Until then I will invest my cash into the areas that will grant me more performance.

First off, several things you say about the various monitors is wrong, and is simply your opinion. Secondly, I doubt many people care about perfect color accuracy on a gaming monitor, or viewing angle on a PC you will always be sitting directly in front of. I doubt a graphic artist cares much for response time. Conversely, everyone cares about how much they spend on something.

A GPU handles anti aliasing, frame rates, texture quality, tearing, and more, and it doesn't care what monitor you're using when it does it. Someone earlier said that a game running AAx2 will look as good on a good monitor as a game running AAx16 on a cheap monitor. Wrong. If the person is a gamer looking only for jagged edges, and not a designer looking for vivid color or deep contrast, the cheap monitor will look better to them.

With your reasoning...

Why do people write like they talk, when they could so easily punctuate and properly space sentences into easy to read paragraphs? I guess you don't have the time to be an english major, or even remember what they taught you in fifth grade. That annoys ME like it annoys YOU that people buy TN monitors, but I understand it will always be so and try not to judge you accordingly by saying you are "stupid"... Although I would think it is more of a suggestion to intelligence than what type of monitor someone decided to buy.

We all have different priorities and perception, making variety ALWAYS viable.
