Steelseries, Filco or Ducky

post #1 of 18
Thread Starter
Its another Mech keyboard thread!

Keyboards were never something I took seriously in the past, and recently Ive burned through versions 1-3 of the Saitek Eclipse series and their build quality leaves a lot to be desired for an all round keyboard. After much deliberation (and thread surfing here on OCN) ive narrowed down my selection to...

OCN Ducky 9008G2 PBT
http://www.tankguys.com/site-merchandise/ducky-keyboard-mx-overclock-net-edition-black-pbt.html

Steelseries 7G
[ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Steel-Series-SteelSeries-7G-Keyboard/dp/B001FSKN1M"]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Steel-Series-SteelSeries-7G-Keyboard/dp/B001FSKN1M[/ame]

Filco Majestouch
[ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Filco-Majestouch-Linear-Action-Keyboard/dp/B003046WLO/ref=sr_1_cc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1308052794&sr=1-2-catcorr"]http://www.amazon.co.uk/Filco-Majestouch-Linear-Action-Keyboard/dp/B003046WLO/ref=sr_1_cc_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1308052794&sr=1-2-catcorr[/ame]

I have sold myself on Cherry Black switches, that seems to meet my needs a lot better, Browns are a good option as well but i will be predominantly gaming so Blacks would suit better.

Ive read many reviews about the Filco and how good it is, the die wear on the Ducky is a concern for me and the only reviews I have seen on the 7G are the usual "paid for" reviews online...

I would love to get everyones opinion on this (and alternatives if theres something better!).

Ironically, after shipping, the Ducky is probably the cheapest out of the three with the 7G being the most expensive?!?

I own a ducky and a Filco. I'd get the Ducky if I were to get a new KB.

Deck keyboards are also a brand to consider. The OCN Ducky I've heard has some wear issues, but I do not know the extent of it.

I hate my OCN Ducky. The caps lock key doesn't work right and the lettering started wearing off almost immediately after getting it. The C, V, and S keys are almost gone. frown.gif Not very good quality for a $100+ keyboard.

My next mechanical will be a Deck with the backlighting for sure.

Out of curiosity, does any brand make a gamepad with mechanical keys?

This is my thinking, I have had too many brands in the past and I think Steelseries would just disappoint me. The fact that I don't know anyone who has one is quite concerning!

Im leaning towards the Filco but the OCN Ducky just looks fantastic! If they are both on the Cherry Black then is there any real difference between the two or is it just down to style?

Filco's do tend to feel a little more crisp, possible because the switches are mounted on a metal plate instead of a PCB, not sure about the Ducky.

The Ducky's come in Cherry browns, blues, or blacks. I got the browns and I love the feel of the keys, I just don't like the rest of the keyboard. I should sell it here on OCN since everyone is so crazy about them.
