New GPU help

Thread Starter
Hi everyone i need help deciding what GPU to get ..

I bought my rig of a friend and it came with a PNY GTS 250 and i want to play Crysis and it dose not run as well as i would like

I have a budget of about £160 and ive been shopping around and come up with these..

ATI

XFX 5830 X2 Crossfire (always wanted Crossfire )

NVIDIA

EVGA GTX 460 SC

If i go with nvidia i can always use my gts 250 for physx

But i would like to go ATI as i have always wanted a dual Gpu setup

Whould i be throwing cash down the drain with the 5830's tho?

Any Suggestions would be nice

Thanks

Scan have removed the 5830 of the website

All Ati Are XFX

6850 black edition £154
6950 £195

Nvidia EVGA

560ti is a good performance/$$ for Nvidia.
But if you can get the 6950. That's what I'd go for.

You have an AMD CPU so get an ATI card.
The Radeon HD 6950 2gb can be unlocked to an 6970 2gb which saves you a lot of money. But if you're on a budget and want to play Crysis on high, just get the HD 6850 or HD 6870.

Just because he has an AMD CPU, doesn't mean he needs or has to get a ATI/AMD card.
Not to mention, by now. The revision of the 6950 that can be unlocked, has probably already came and went. I know the newer revisions got rid of the dual BIOS switch and can't successfully unlock the shaders.

Yeah just checked the HD 6950, unfortunately it can't be unlocked anymore.
It really depends on what kind of deal can he get. On Newegg, if you buy the XFX HD 6870 you get 2 free games (Dirt 3 and Shotgun). And it only cost $165 after mail-in rebate. But the GTX 560 (no Ti) cost $180 after mail in rebate and no extra games. The ATI 6870 is also a little bit faster on his resolution according to this.

Tom's Hardware has a great monthly article called "best graphics card for the money" should help you out!

I'm an NVIDIA fanboy, so I'm biased, haha. That said I'd get the 560ti

The price of the cards changed a bit this month, so the cost of all the cards in the article might be cheaper now.
