I'd believe 50% faster, that way they can get easy ports from the 360/ps3 without much optimization (beyond controller-specific stuff and possibly a higher res)

We can hope for higher but i agree, Nintendo has had great financial success with the Wii hardware and saw Sony/MS lose billions to establish themselves. They will likely ride-out this generation on ports and have something ready for when the x720/PS4 hit.

Turns out the cpu is based on a 45nm die contrary to the 32nm listed here. i think it's safe to say that the rest of these specs are fake.

It depends on the game. The console(s) themselves can support higher, but due to the limited GPU power, some are lower and scaled up. This is more common on the Playstation 3 I believe (Call of Duty Black Ops is like 1024x640 scaled up, yes, lower than 1024x768!).

Yes, everything is speculation at this point, but I'd bet cash that the GPU in the Wii U will be at most an RV740 or equivalent, probably an RV730.
I sincerely hope it's not just 50% more powerful, but I guess since it's only Nintendo's console it's not that bad of a deal. I guess we'll find out. It's more if Sony and Microsoft hold back alot that it would be a bit worrying (technically they are by not releasing any news or anything, but again, we'll see).

in the bulk they theoretically would be buying 580's, the cost would probably be a lot closer to half of their retail value....

No one's asking for top end hardware. The 4870 came out in 2008 and now costs less than $100, but the WII U is not even using a card that powerful (speculation). That's what the thread is about.

Let's just agree to not talk about the 580 anymore because it was meant to be funny and it went over your head.

Most PS3 and 360 games look bad. No AA, low ress, popping, it's annoying. Nintendo, just make sure all games run at 1080p, are anti-aliased, and aren't popping obvious things. As long as the Wii U would have polish, it's fine, that's what's important.
