If this is true, well, yeah, it's not a Radeon 4870... but it is a RV770, and perhaps something closer to a Radeon 4890 derivative.

It'll be interesting to see if this is confirmed.

Console tech like servers must be tried and stable. Unlike servers however it needs to be so stable to last for years and years. Even normal "bugs" cannot be tolerated in console tech.

I think with a slightly more powerful GPU and 3 times as much ram, the wii u will easily be able to put the Xbox360 and PS3 to shame. The thing the 360 and PS3 lack most is ram.

PS3 also suffers from a bandwidth issue from the cd/dvd/blueray laser to the rest of the system. I remember my friend telling me it was a huge bottleneck.

Consoles aren't designed in a day. If they revised their designs every time a new GPU came out, a new console would never come out.

Also, costs, suitability for the form factor, & target audience have to be considered.

I personally don't get the WII U at all. I mean the WII was even for then old tech, it sold because it was cheap, it had motion control which turned into a huge hype somehow and their own titles didn't need to go Full HD.

From what I've seen so far the controller itself will cost more than the old WII. I don't understand which way they are going with this. Also the controller will not be usable like the WII ones were. Imagine swinging that touchscreen around the living room playing tennis. Myamoto also said it's designed mostly for use of only one of those touchscreen controllers. Does this mean we can use the old controllers for it as well?

If so it could be like a cross platform - platform lol. They will still be creating WII party games but you can also play BF3 and CoD and other big titles with it. That would make sense.

@hardware; the thing is designed to run at 1080p max. Livingroom TVs can't even cope with more. And at the end of the day it's not techies that create the console, it's the accountants. This thing needs to make money, not blow your mind. It needs to keep up at minimal cost. Console-players are a whole other species than PC gamers (well most of them are). They don't want to go for the GFX edge with things. They just want to buy something they can run for 5 to 6 years without problems and play with their friends. all the same platform, no differences, just go.

I was thinking the 4770 is a likely choice based on R700 and it's already fabbed at 40nm.

Just because it can doesn't mean it does. Developers are too busy pushing the limits on textures and geometry to waste memory on AA.

It doesn't mean it doesn't either.

What resolution a game is displayed at, and what anti aliasing methods it employs are entirely at the developers discretion rather than defined entirely by the hardware
