First time SLI

Thread Starter
Heyo everyone. I just recently built a new rig (see signature for details) and have just now ordered my second GPU for SLI. It's a 570 Superclocked EVGA card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130595

Anything I should know or do right away to make sure that my cards cooperate happily with one another? They're both the same card, I have plenty of power for them, latest drivers, etc. Just making sure that I don't make any noob mistakes.

I've read up on SLI and I've been building PCs for years, I just feel like it's nearly too easy and I want to be certain I'm not overlooking something that's terribly obvious.

Just uninstall all of your nvidia drivers, install the new video card, connect the SLI cable that came with the motherboard, start the computer, install the latest drivers, open up the nvidia control panel and click enable performance settings (enable sli) and then have a ball

make sure you have your bridge in and both cards can breath with some air. it never hurts to point a fan in there direction.

Awesome, thanks for the suggestions everyone. They're much appreciated.

And yes, I am very much looking forward to this setup. I've had some pretty nice rigs in the past, but this one is shaping up to blow them all away.

I need to pick up a few Ultra Kaze fans and a fan controller, but right now, it's just the stock fans in the case. However, I've been very, very careful with my cable management, so airflow inside the case is pristine.

I dont think you need to uninstall your drivers before you add in your second card, i certainly didnt have to!

I didn't figure that I would since it's an identical card to the one I already have. And I keep my drivers current.
You needn't uninstall drivers. Just put the new card in, attach SLI bridge, start 'er up. The same driver that is on the first card should install automatically. At that point I always just re-install (not a clean install although I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anything, you don't need to and it takes longer ) the same driver package and restart. You should then have the SLI option available in NVCP, so just enable it, and the hell out

Also, if you have Precision/Afterburner presently set to OC (or even just open) on Windows startup, I would uncheck such options before you install the 2nd card. Leave the OC'ing tools off until your SLI is up and running.

All up and running. SLI is groovy, huge leaps in performance on Witcher 2. I'm holding steady at about 120FPS with *every* setting manually cranked to maximum.

As a sidenote, when I added this second GPU, I also added another 8GB of RAM, and let me tell you, 16GB of ram for general daily computer usage is HOT. It is like going from a Pinto to a Cadillac. Everything is so quick and snappy. Programs load and switch like they're on rails.

I'm sure that there are things I could have done a little differently in the build of my current rig, but I cannot overstate just how happy I am with it, especially with the price I paid for everything.

I'd vouch very strongly for two EVGA 570s in SLI, too.

That is great to hear! Congrats!

I'm getting more and more excited to go sli also.
