So whats the deal with the Vertex 3? - Page 3

I didn't have quite the nightmare with my Agility 3. I stepped away from my computer for a bio break and came back to find the missing boot device error and missing from BIOS error. Shutting the computer back completely brought the drive back to life, and after a reinstall via Tony's labyrinthine procedures I had no further issues for another week. But the damage was done. I was always wondering when everything would crap out again. The discussions on the OCZ forums did nothing to restore confidence. The final straw was when their support guy said the same LED pattern could mean both a perfectly healthy drive, or one dead as a doornail, depending on the mood of the engineers that day. First chance I got, the Agility 3 went back to the store in favor of the 510.

tl;dr: Don't even THINK of buying an OCZ SandForce drive right now, or maybe ever.

^This. I'm supposed to receive my Vertex 3 RMA replacement today and will give it one last go. If it doesn't work, I'm going to ask for a refund from OCZ and will then use my money to probably get a Crucial M4 or Intel 510 SSD. Which would you guys say is a better one (I want an 120GB one)?

Bought a Corsair Force Series 3 which was promoted as being 85k IOPS (big, big lie). Was faulty on arrival - RMA'd it immediately as it almost screwed up my entire rig - will get 64gb Crucial drives instead and stick them in Raid.

Will never - ever - buy any Corsair product again. Dreadful quality of product and blatant false advertising for their SSD's. Only thing i like about them is their liquid coolers and they don't even manufacture them themselves - they just print their stupid name on the box. And their RAM is crap too

Just felt like sharing that really

I think SandForce has really screwed up with their SF-2281 chipsets. Corsair and OCZ alike have been less than stellar in their attempts at making decent SSDs with these chipsets.

Mine was working perfectly fine until I updated to 2.06. 2.08 was just released few hours ago and it doesn't work either.

Stick to 2.02 until all this crap gets fixed.

True!

But it makes you wonder what kind of testing both companies did before releasing these drives. How the hell Corsair were able to release such a faulty/incompatible product is beyond me.

Although to be fair - and this is the only good thing i'll say about them - their customer support is quite professional and it didn't take them long to recall the drives and give RMA's!

Exactly, although going by OCZ's constant reports that only 1% to 2% of users seem to report these issues and that SandForce cannot reproduce the issues themselves, I guess their testing ok'ed the SSDs for release. But yeah, where Crucial recalled them in a decent timeframe, OCZ continue to deny there's a general problem. I'm quite sick of reading the same "it's not the SSD, it's your fault" posts...
They're very contradictory, too. I keep saying that my previous Vertex 2E SSD was perfectly fine whereas the Vertex 3 SSD is not and all they say is that the Vertex 3 supports certain things that the Vertex 2E does not. Doesn't that imply a problem with these new features to you?

So OCZ are not only continuing to sell faulty products but also insinuating that it's the customers fault, and continuing to release bois's that actually mess up perfectly stable drives - that's insane - and bordering on blatant unethical business practice? I bloody well hope nothing ever goes wrong with my Vertex 2.

Round of applause for OCZ anyone?

At least on the Corsair forums they actually recommended that users return their SSD's just to be on the safe side - even if there wasn't a problem. With the option of full refund or a new drive with the problem fixed - and they'd pay for shipping. Even my e-tailor said they'd accept RMA.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. I appreciate some people might indeed have no problems, but honestly, the sheer number of users reporting the same thing should be very indicative that indeed there's a problem that's common to the product itself. Don't worry, I think the Vertex 2E is a good overall product. I was more than happy with mine. That "itch" to upgrade to the Vertex 3 has betrayed me, hahaha.

Corsair have honestly outdone themselves with these issues whereas OCZ are shamefully trying to get more sales with no regard for problems.
