So whats the deal with the Vertex 3? - Page 4

Thread Starter
Wow, I'm so glad I didn't get the Agility 3 or Vertex 3.. I was so close to picking either one of these up a few times over the past week.. I feel sorry for you guys who are having such a bad experience.. I have a Vertex 2E at the moment, its working ok, a little on the slow side, but thats more of a setup mistake I made. I hope you guys get some answers soon.

The Crucial M4 is calling my name. Sorry Intel 510, you aren't worth the 30% premium over the M4.

Thanks to everyone for their input... if not for this forum, I'd be pulling my hair out with a $300 OCZ drive that doesn't work.

Both Intel 510 and Vertex 3 have a 30% premium over Crucial M4 drives. I don't see any reason for anybody to go for that. Crucial M4 performance has been nothing but stellar! I think Crucial is the seabiscuit of the SSD race at this time...

This is awesome, good to know what OCZ's business practice is like, I will not buy another OCZ product again. Cheers for the heads up

I'm glad this thread is up and I hope it saves people the headache and heartache of buying an SF-2281 powered drive, particularly from OCZ. For the time being, anyway. A couple of months down the line, this whole ordeal might be irrelevant. Of course, I would not wait a couple of months sitting down with a defective SSD.

My hunch: eventually, there will be a firmware update which will bring the speeds down a bit to achieve stability. I think the controller is not able to handle the speeds that the Sandforce says its able to handle. The raw speeds of 550/500 MB/s are compressible ATTO kind of data anyway, which is useless in real world! So, you won't get that kind of speed while copying files within the same drive or from another drive capable of 500 MB/s (like a RAID).

I'm not an expert, but this doesn't make sense to me. 2.02 was perfectly fine so I doubt it's an instability issue related to speed.

It was likely fine for you. But not for many people. Go read newegg reviews. Sort them by lowest rating and look at dates.
