How much difference in temp between cores is normal?

Thread Starter
I tried searching for this, but the only threads I found were where temps differed 10c+ between cores and people RMA'd their chips.

I'm wondering how much is normal/acceptable.

I'm running my 2500k at stock at the moment testing it out, doing a prime95 load. Temps are 49/55/50/54. The temps can go up or down a bit, but the difference between them stays pretty constant.

Is this normal, or a sign of a bad heatsink/grease application? I do have to redo the grease anyway because I had to pull the sink off and put it back on while hunting down a short, but I'm wondering if this is normal and what I should expect.

That seems pretty normal. Mine are all the same on a Core 2 Duo, but from what I understand, that's more the exception than the norm. If there were big variations, you'd have cause for concern, but not with ~5C at most.

The temps you listed sound WAY to normal...lol

Open task manager and look at the little independent graph thinggy's for each CPU...

Then you can compare the individual temps to individual stresses...

I don't think your heat sync needs remounted if thats your average idle/light use temps...

But it couldn't hurt to do it and put good past if you havent done that alredy...

Wait, I have a Core 2 Duo... My core 2 duo has about 5 degree variation most always...

And, I have 10-15 degree variation every so often and my heat sync is placed properly...
But my CPU's usages greatly differ also, I set CPU affinities too... (Mostly cuz I can)
