Knowing how cheap Nintendo is, i would be shocked to see anything higher that a 4830 in their system. The 4890 is definitely a long shot for Nintendo system

Why do people continue to compare the WiiU's power to the PS3/360? It isn't an achievement of any sort. When it is released, PS3/360 will be 6/7 years older?
They aren't overcompensating at all, as some of you suggest. When the new PS3/360's come out, the WiiU will be like the current Wii, trash.

A few points:

1. dx 10.1 is useless in this chip because nintendo uses opengl or some close-to-hardware language like ATI stream. Likewise, DX 11 is pointless. Another result of this is that porting won't be much easier.

2. Nintendo opted for 4xxx because it was current at the time. When the console launches, it needs to have games available for it. These games take years to make and optimize. If they want to launch in 2012, they must have started coding in 2008-2009. At that time, 4xxx was top of the line.

3. there's no way that a 48xx GPU is being used. even the 6770 at 40nm has a 100+ watt tdp. the wii is too small to cool both a power7 CPU, and a big GPU.

The 5770/6770 barely touch 100w and they're at 40nm. If they tweak/shrink the RV770 GPU (assuming they will use that) to 28nm/32nm then they could easily get it down to around 60-70w IMO. For launch, that's good enough, and there will be further die shrinks down the road.

The result is pretty decent looking games, maybe with added effects due to more powerful hardware or something. If you're talking about the controller, yeah 3rd parties won't use it well across the board, but it won't make the game suddenly horrible though.
