I am about to get one (love the creme color contrasted with wood) but ive heard that they crack like this:

http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/...ng-to-crack/30

is that just an isolated incident? how durable do you find it?

Same thing is starting to happen to my HD555's. Little cracks in the same area, nowhere near as large but when I saw them I was a bit worried. I guess I just gotta be cairful.

I have yet to experience it, but I believe it happens after about 1-2 years of regular use. As far as I can tell, it never actually affects the headphones beyond "cosmetic" damage.

I've owned the HD598s for about 2 months. (Sold them) Now bought HD595s for 1/3 of the price. I keep coming back to Sennheiser's sound signature.

I any event, I heard not all people get that crack, but guess I wasn't one of them.

Sennheiser will always replace it though, so no worries on that part.

Picture displays a small crack on the left cup. (I presume it would widen further down the road) Right cup is perfectly intact though.

I find it somewhat appalling that Sennheiser sticks to that material/design even though it's clearly going to fail in the future. I can almost (not really) tolerate cracks developing on headphones below $20 but the HD598 is...wait for it....

a $220 headphone.

Well, I am sure mine would have cracked further, but I sold them a month ago. The picture was taken few days before the sale.

I just ordered mine in faith that the cracking issue is resolved. Also the cable length is 10 ft long! lol anybody know a way to shorten it (the cable is removable from the headphones)
