The reviews for the ASUS M4A89GTD on New Egg are.....Unsettling. 50% say that the MOBO will work, the other 50% state otherwise.

Are there anymore reliable options out there? And I still need to know what kind of RAM will go with the MOBO.

I haven't had any trouble with mine - I've been running this rig 24/7 since February.

Whatever motherboard you choose, if you're going to be OC'ing, it's worth reading this thread and this thread to make sure your board will be a good choice. Stuff about power phases and what not to help make sure your motherboard doesn't blow up or light on fire or something when you increase your CPU voltage.

And maybe this one, which is just another explanation of all that stuff.

Overclocking will not be an issue, it's far to scary for me to dabble into. Keep in mind this is my first build.

How good is the on board video?

Well, it never hurts to have a system that you'll be able to overclock in the future, if you wanted to. It isn't too scary with all the folks around here to help you out. The rig in my signature was my first one as well.

I've never used the on board video, as I use my HD6850 - you're going to have a 6850 in your rig as well, right?

Also, I just poked around in the AMD Memory forum and saw these two sets of RAM recommended a couple times:

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB CL7 & CL8.

I have the second one in my dedicated folding rig and I am happy with them.

edit: People used to always recommend the Spinpoint F3 on here, but then Samsung's hard drive department was annexed by Seagate or something, so I don't know if that changed anything.

Okay, I think I have enough to go on to start ordering the parts. The only thing I have to worry about now is how to wire this thing when I get it.

Thanks a lot for helping me.

Six-Chain I got 8gb of G.Skill CL9D 1600, I really like it, I'm sure you could get some G.skill 1333 8gb for a pretty good price on newegg, or that ram above that xd_1771 posted also good deal. I have an 1100T and I use an H70 to cool it works great but if you arent OCing its really not necessary to spend the money on one. good luck with your build

Do a little bit of searching of cpu coolers, I have read many threads that say the Cooler Master V10 is not a decent cooler. I just built a rig and I used a thermalright venemous x which has worked very well for me. My prior box had a cooler master cpu cooler in it and I had no issues i believe it was a cooler master Hyper z600R, but it was not the V10... if you dont plan to OC then most should work for you
