HD 4850 cooler

post #1 of 3

ok today i got my new used GPU a HD 4850 1GB to replace my recently deceased HD 3870x2 1GB and im looking for a better cooler the stock one is terrible
4850 = £45
3870x2=£70
the stock fan is tiny and dose barley any thing

also real world performance 4850 vs 3870x2

there is some noticeable difference in FPS

GTA4 is bout equal
bulletstorm FPS is slightly lower maxing at 40FPS on the 4850
always at 60+ on the 3870x2 cant say with vsync off as it all ways stays on no matter what

back to topic i need a better cooler for this card one that will vent the warm air out the case not blow it back in the cheaper the better

im going to miss my 3870x2 was a damn good card would of got a 4850x2/40870x2 if i had the cash or even a 3850x2 hate having a mobo with one PCI-E slot

Pretty much all of the aftermarket coolers directly cool the GPU. I havent seen any aftermarket coolers that vent out the warm air since Artic Cooling's older coolers which arent compatible.

The Accelero TWIN TURBO would be a good choice.

If you want to lower temps and a quick fix, you could try getting thermal paste and reapply the TIM which should help and see the results.

the temps are not that bad its just this stock cooler causes most of the hot air to stay inside of my case causing my NB/or the thing with the heat sinc on it to over heat and bring my system to a crawl until it cools down

that + my room is hot as hell all the damn time

seriously my hamster has never hibernated since i moved it to my room and i can keep tropical fish without a heater for the tank that warm

so i have my air flow in my case to vent as much warm air as possible just this GPU sorta messed it up to a extent

even the temperamental overheating 3870x2 played its part in cooling my system

im actually going to get some pci exhaust fans whilst im at it
