Lain DDC Pump Differences - Page 2

will the aqua computer top fit on the mcp35x?

I wish they would get away from calling the DDC3 series pumps DDC1 pumps...they are very different.

DDC1 = Black impeller 10 watt model
DDC2 = Orange impeller 18 watt model

Detuning, soft start, and over voltage protection circuitry was added in between these models. Also the impeller inlet opening was reduced.

DDC3.1/3.2 = Blue Impeller 10/18watt models, same exact motor, just one has a soldered bridge at the wire connectors to make it 18 watt.

RPM scaling protection was implemented between these models for less heat and performance at low restriction scenarios. A bit more RPM added at very low flow rates, but practically little difference between the two other than lower restriction conditions are less of a heat problem for later models.

DDC3.15/3.25 = Blue outer, orange inner impeller 10/18 watt models

MCP35X = PWM flavor of the DDC3.25, but also less agressive RPM scaling gives this motor more RPM advantage over the non PWM variety but also more heat similar to the DDC3.2 series.

The impeller color and wattage pretty much spells out which pump each one is..

They don't make DDC1 pumps anymore, so stores that use the old DDC1 type convention can be confusing. Generally a 10 watt pump will be either a DDC3.1 or DDC3.15 and the 18watt models are DDC3.2s or DDC3.25s.

Don't forget a pump top for the mcp 355. I'm using an xspc top which has threads.

The MCP35x is pretty much a MCP355 with a top and pwm.

No, it's not. It's a DDC 3.25 (the 355 is a DDC 3.2) with some circuitry changes, including PWM, and a Swiftech top.

To actually answer the question, yes, any normal DDC 3.x top will fit the MCP35X.

It is similar. It isn't EXACTLY the same.

There are a limited few retail places that still offer the DDC-1 10W models OR if you know a pump maverick, you can get them at a great deal. Adding a performance top would provide ample flow.

All the revisions on DDC pumps makes it somewhat confusing. Companies still list DDC1 pumps for pumps that are DDC 3.x. Good info on the differences Martinm210.
