Cherry MX Brown Keyboard Around $150

Thread Starter
I'm kicking myself for returning that Razer Blackwidow I bought about two months ago for $60 from Fry's. Yeah, the Cherry MX Blues were obnoxiously loud. Yes, I sucked at gaming with it but I really gave it about 6 hours total before I decided to call it quits and returned it so I could get a Samsung F3 1TB (that hard drive is pretty baller).

Looking back on it, that was a pretty decent board for how much I paid for it. Well, shoot.

I think the plan now is to get a MX Blue board for the office (I have my own office with a door so I don't annoy people with my blatantly loud typing) and a MX Brown board for home use. Or...MX Brown both ways or just get a single MX Brown for home use.

Anything else I should consider? I know XArmor/iOne is piss-poor in quality, Das is a dust-magnet, Ducky has some recent issues with the printing on caps, Filcos are expensive, Rosewill is OOS (or I would have bought one already considering it's just a Filco Click), Deck is more expensive, Adesso's QC is questionable and...I'm out of options.

Real budget is up to $160 for the board used at home (so exactly at the Filco Majestouch Ninja Tactile - I think the Ninja is awesome). As far under $100 as possible for the office keyboard.

I appreciate all the info in this section. I feel like I learned a lot just by lurking most of the time. Thanks, folks.

tl;dr: Important points in bold with budgets underlined.

EDIT 6/29/11: Since I grabbed a Razer Blackwidow for my office and have been happily typing away on it with a lot less strain and stress on my fingers and wrists, I have come to the point that I no longer know how to properly use the Logitech Illuminated at home.

So in two or three days, I want an MX Brown keyboard. Full 104 key layout required. Media keys would be a bonus. No weird flipped over L shaped Enter keys because I want that \\ button that I use so much for the Run command in the right place. Any new suggestions or do I just get a Filco for twice what I paid for the Blackwidow?

I want to like the Zowie Celeritas but that weird L shaped enter key would screw me over.

I just ordered a Filco Ninja w/ browns myself. I needed to replace my BW, couldn't stand the layout.

I would go with the Filco Ninja with browns for your home; its right in line with your budget too. $150 shipped from Amazon with Prime.

For the mx blue board, you might want to look at Leopold from Elitekeyboards.com (Site is down for me at the moment). You should be able to grab a Leopold tenkeyless for about $110ish. It's not exactly under $100 but from what I read, I think the quality is worth the extra $10.

Leopolds are great. They're all currently out of stock though.
You have a few options, you can buy it from someone from either Geekhack (reaper have a PLU ML-87 Cherry Blue for ~$80 just a few days ago!!).
Or you can check on Group Buys in GH for some other good keyboards.
Here are a few current links.

Filco Tenkeyless v1 $85 used shortly
http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?1...herry-Blues-v1

Cherry G80-3000 $75 used shortly
http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?1...es-PCB-Mounted)

KBC Poker $90 Brand new
http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?1...okers-are-here!

That's all that I can remember. You can search for much more on GH. They had a few group buys of PLU ML-87s and KBC Pokers. Check at the classifieds for leftovers or other deals.

I like "Noppoo Choc" keyboards. They have both mini and standard layouts and I believe they offer all of their board with either blue, brown, or black switches. Check ebay.

Oh also check geekhack.com for reviews of this board. It seems pretty legit and reasonably priced.

For the sake of recommending an alternative, the Unicomp Customizer/Spacesaver is available for $80, and is an excellent clicky keyboard. (Better quality than any sub $100 Cherry board, and most over $100 ones too)

I know it won't be "under" $100, but if you once used to be college student, and still happens to have a student ID, you can get a DAD around that price from their website. They have both MX blues and brown switches available.

http://www.daskeyboard.com/

I got it last month and I'm loving every minute with it.
