Which 6950 2GB cards should I get? - Page 2

Of those three, I would go with the Twin Frozr III.

Looks the best(opinion), performs the best(fact).

Are you mad? Amazon is the best for returns. It's not an RMA like at newegg, where you gotta call them up and complain and crap hope they don't ding you for restock and shipping. At Amazon you just click a few buttons and get an advanced replacement, not an rma. Then you print out your return label.

Irrelevant question: When people say "unlock to 6970" nowadays they mean the shaders, and not a full 6970 BIOS flash right? I haven't been keeping up with the latest on this issue, but it seemed to me when I did, that the concensus was concerning unlocking the extra shaders only, and not a risky full BIOS flash. Correct?

That is correct.

If you're lucky enough to find a card that unlocks anymore.

I know you asked for input on a pair of 6950s (I'm am currently in the same position, looking to upgrade), but at $300 ($285 AR) have you thought about just spending a little more and getting some 6970s?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161356 is $310 AR
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127554 is $315 AR

Like I said, I'm currently also considering the same type of setup you are, and may just go with 6970s. Comes "unlocked", can still be overclocked if you wish. Sure they may not be as flashy of a card, but if you want performance, just going with a stock 6970 may be better then some OC'd TFIIIs.

*edit*

While I was trying to decide on what to get, these popped up on Newegg

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-945-_-Product

If you look at the product page:

http://www.sapphiretech.com/presenta...00101&pid=1235

you can see this:

"The SAPPHIRE HD 6950 Dirt3 Special Edition is a new SAPPHIRE original model with a special cooler using a new dual fan configuration. Based on the latest high end AMD GPU architecture, it boasts true DX 11 capability and the powerful configuration of 1408 stream processors and 88 texture processing units. With its clock speed of 800MHz for the core and 2GB of the latest GDDR5 memory running at 1250Mhz (5 Gb/sec effective), this model speeds through even the most demanding applications for a smooth and detail packed experience.
A Dual BIOS feature allows enthusiasts to experiment with alternative BIOS settings and performance can be further enhanced with the SAPPHIRE overclocking tool, TriXX, available as a free download from http://www.sapphiretech.com/ssc/TriXX/"

I was going to just nab 2 of the HIS 6950 2GB since they were the cheapest, $230 AR, but decided to get 2 of the Dirt3 SEs instead.

If you haven't decided on what to get yet, they may be worth looking into since they are $30 less ($15 if you get the rebates) then the TFIII and may unlock.

Good luck with your search.

Hmm, good find.

I took into consideration the 6970 cards and a single 6970 seems to get somewhere between 3-7 FPS over a 6950 according to some of the games on this benchmark page.

I just don't know if its worth the extra 20, when I can have some quiet cards. The Sapphire cards you posted have me very interested though....

I was also wondering about those Sapphire 6950's. The dual fan is nice.. wonder how it stacks up to MSI's TF series.

Well I looked inside my case. I have another PCI-E slot that is RIGHT next to my current XFX. I guess I could slip a card in there. But there is a brown colored one as well a little further apart. Is that also a PCI-E? And why is it brown?

Also, to remove the XFX, do I have to flip the little snap that locks it in because I can't even see it TBH.....

An Antec TP-750 should be plenty for dual 6950s correct?

Id be interested in what you find....

Honestly though, Im probably going to go with the Twin Frozrs simply because I have all that amazon credit. If the Sapphire was available on amazon, I would just wait.

I really don't have anything else to buy....
