[Exophase] EA Pulls Crysis 2 from Steam Store, Now ‘Only On Origin' - Page 59

You guys are forgetting the most important thing about Steam, and my personal favorite. I have all my games on my secondary RAID array. When I format and re install windows it's super easy to get steam back running again. No re installing anything. Just delete all Steam files except your games folder and the steam.exe. Click steam.exe and your done. It automatically updates the registry and rebuilds steam.

Main reason I never went to Windows Live either. I have age of empires but once I reformat I have to re install the game. Think about how long it would take to re install all the games on my steam account. Let's see if Origin can do this.

One of the other reasons I don't buy retail.

Many games are linked to the Steam service by default. The publisher uses proprietary CD keys for the Steam service to help Steam "add" more users. Here's how:

Just Cause 2 is a Steamworks game.

I can buy JC2 from D2D, instead of me downloading the game from the place I bought it from, I'm forced to download the Steam client in order to run the game. The same goes for any other Steamworks game in circulation.

Now when EA does the same, people are in an uproar but Valve has been cornering the market for years. Many digital download services have called foul on Valve for forcing users to use their client, even though the user bought it from a different company. On top of that, they don't allow their IP's to be sold by other digital services because they are greedy themselves.

That's the double standard.

You all are PC gamers. Forgot how to store, patch and organize your games?
Need Steam to do that for you? Ahh poor babies.
If you had someone who was a complete jerk and someone who was nice and awesome who would you rather help out? Thats what EA vs Valve is. EA are the jerks who are ruining PC gaming and forcing you to do stuff while Valve, even if they are a "monopoly" on DIGITAL sales, aka I can buy stuff from stores too, are always making great games and listens to their fans. Id rather have Valve get more money because they are awesome, EA are a bunch of greedy jerks. EA bans you and takes your games for making light remarks about EA being the devil and probably only gave the guy his games back because of so much bad press. I cant remember all the details but I got the point that EA are jerks.

If you cant understand that selling garbage and annoying people is bad for sales then the market will explain it.

Well thats debateable for sure. As an idiot myself I have lost most of my PC games and CD keys before I was late teens. Plus ur mom cant break ur disks and prevent you from playing

I havent lost any recent games and I do like boxes, remember those huge PC boxes like a CEREAL BOX oollollolololololol... memories... now they are like a brick.

Overall having my games forever and being able to re-DL them or put them in storage is sick rather than a fragile physical copy.

I called it earlier and said Crytek will have entered into a publishing deal with Origin that violated the Terms and Conditions of Steam. These T&C won't be public, either, as they're for developers and publishers, not users, so there is little way of clarification without Valve giving it. But my best bet is that Crytek were going to either give Origin exclusivity on future DLC and/or charge less for it on Origin than Steam.

I can see how that'd violate the T&C of Steam as I imagine Valve either request impartiality between services or, as hinted at by the EA spokesman, changed their T&C to demand all DLC for Steam published games at least or exclusively come through Steam. I'm hoping it's the "at least" option but worst comes to worst Steam tried pulling an Apple and demanding dictatorship.

all crysis 2 DLC is sold in game, you dont buy it outside of it. Whoever/whatever service they use to provide the content, like an EA service provides it, and that is a contract that Crytek signed with them. THen valve goes and says hey we need a piece to at a later date. Well crytek has a signed contract with someone else, not much they can do, while Steam since they control their products, could have worked something out. As vir said, Steam was the one to change their rules and cause the ruckus.

as long as the game will be executable without the origin app I really couldn't care less

I bought BC2 through the EA Store Download Manager thingie whatever which eventually became Origin and I now launch BC2 either through its own direct shortcut or through steam if I want the steam overlay

unfortunately I believe things might change as the Origin interface does make it look like an EA attempt to compete with Steam's complete package, including friends list and in-game overlay

that would, of course, be terrible news as we certainly do not need every major developer/publisher running their own game management software to juggle all of our games on and cluttering up our operating systems with what should otherwise be redundant extraneous background processes

its doubtful, why would crytek bother investing more time and money into something that already sells for them? I know I wouldnt lol

I thought that was funny too.

When I lost CD's I would just use CD cracks. Actually I started using CD cracks even if I didn't lose the CD, I hate having to put a disc in all the time.
