Just received DAS keyboard professional S silent from newegg...very confused!

Hey all!

Please excuse the lengthy post, but I am extremely heated and seeking answers.

HISTORY leading up to this: (skip this to get to topic title issue)
So basically I've been buying things from newegg past few months and now being on my 5th purchase I am very concerned with how the company runs itself.

I ordered a premade cyberpower pc tower for 620 for my dad, all was alright from what i could tell, no problems here.

Next, I ordered a EVGA nvidia geforce GTX 560 ti Superclocked edition with 30 dollar rebate. The card seemed fine and still is within acceptable standards, but asking on the EVGA forums, it runs at a much higher temperature than other people's cards of the same exact model. The card runs at 80 degrees in very good above average air cooling situation inside a CM storm scout, along side my cpu e8500 overclocked at 4.12ghz, which runs at 60 max.Whatever, I have come to accept it lets move on.

I ordered a Razer blackwidow ultimate from newegg a few weeks ago, all seemed fine at first but then I noticed that the backlights had some outages and some keys were mushy and not as clicky as the others. RMA time...called newegg and gave them credit card info for advanced RMA.

They sent me another brand new blackwidow ultimate, this one had the up arrow key backlight broken, and different keys not the same as the first felt mushy and not well made with quality at all.

Returned all of it for a refund.

I ordered a Steelseries QCK mass mousepad along with the keyboard, and it arrived at my house with its package OPENED. I believe this was due to the heat, but i dont know...

Newegg credited me the 15 bucks for the mousepad, that made me somehwat start to believe in them again.

MAIN TOPIC:

I most recently ordered a DAS keyboard professional S silent, and it just came today. This keyboard was selling on newegg for 149.99 with a special discount if you entered a code. Truth be told the newegg price was MORE EXPENSIVE than amazon and other dealers like buy.com for this exact keyboard.

I decided to give newegg another shot and ordered the das silent from them expecting to finally have a product of quality and also expecting to dispell any thoughts that I had of newegg selling people rejected products as is a common rumor going around.

I first noticed that the box that came to me arrived very late in the evening which was strange since all my newegg shipment arrive at 3pm on the dot, every time. This time it came at 8pm...and the box was totally different than any other newegg shipment ive ever seen.

It was a large box, unnessesarily large for the small das keyboard, and it had weird tape on it that is blue and white striped saying check for theft and damage before accepting from carrier.

Also, it had some new strange barcode with red around it saying SC keasby.

The ups tracking that i saw showed the origina was Edison NJ, which is of course the warehouse.

Anyways, I take out the das keyboard box which is totally unsealed in any way.

I opened it to find the keyboard was NOT nicely and neatly packaged, but instead looks like someone packed it into the box in a hurry.

WORST OF ALL!!!! ---> the quality control sticker that is supposed to cover the entire front of the keyboard looked like ti had been removed before and was now sloppily put back on. It took no effort to remove the keyboard protective covering, as it was not even attached for the most part.

Further inspection...I see that the glossy finish has grease smudges on it above the arrow keys and in a few other areas, and it looks like it had been cleaned off but not all the way.

I took the little black microfiber cloth which by the way does not seem brand new at all...and tried to remove the seemingly greasy smudges...but it wont come off.

Someone please tell me what the HELL is going on here? I am so pissed off and disappointed with newegg for this horrible experience I have had with them.

It is only seemingly to get worse and worse...with this das keyboard being the one single MOST HORRIBLE ONLINE SHOPPING EVENT I have ever been through in my life.

I paid 127 for a brand new das keyboard, a 9 dollar new jersey tax because I live there, and another 8 shipping and handling and for what?

For a returned or refurbished product??? What the heck is going on here?

At least the 2 defective razer backwidow ultimates were obviously brand new, with a 100% clean glossy surface, and smelling HEAVILY like recently manufactured at the factory plastics.

The das does smell like factory at ALL, it has no scent to it whatsoever...except for a very faint hint of alcohol which I expect was used to clean the insides of the keyboard?

Someone please explain this situation to me because I am in disbelief and am very confused.

I ordered a new keyboard, why does this one have no symptoms of being brand new?

Is this just the way DAS keyboards are made and shipped out? Perhaps their Quality control is extremely thorough, and they check the keyboards by hand? Perhaps the person doing QC on my keyboard in germany accidentally smuged it and tried to clean, but just figured noone would notice or was too busy?

Please explain to me how my situation is what it is at the moment...

Explain to Newegg. I've had nothing but amazing experiences working with their CS. They will most certainly allow you to exchange it at no cost (at most with a direct request if they don't offer it to you immediately) and might even give you a discount on a future purchase (this has happened to me).

updated gallery of my misfortune dealing with newegg....why would they send me a refurbrished, used keyboard? They dont even OFFER DAS keyboards used/refurbrished for sale at all!

There is no such item on newegg....all DAS KEYBOARDS ON NEWEGG ARE NEW!

I wouldnt be half as upset if this wasnt the THIRD FREAKING broken busted keyboard that newegg sent me within the past 3 weeks.

Once defective thats understandable but very dissapointing...two defective, now im starting to get suspicious...but THREE??? Either I have had the worst consequtive luck dealing with 3 consecutive newegg shipments...or newegg is just sucking hardcore.

Going to RMA this tomorrow morning, jeez i am so tired of dealing with this crap...I spend a premium dealing with newegg by paying the 10 dollar new jersey tax on all items...and in return I get this crap.

On the bright side...this refurbished das professional model S silent is AMAZING!!! Much much better than the blackwidow ultimate for gaming and typing both! Cant wait to get an actual brand new version of this keyboard =/

There was a thread here awhile ago where a guy who ordered a new GTX 580 (or something like that) got it in the mail and it seemed open. When comparing it to the online gallery at newegg.com, he noticed that the one they sent him was the exact one used for the photo gallery.

Basically newegg.com opened the product, photographed it, then put it back in the box and sold it as a brand new product. The same may have happened to you.

This confuses me. If you do not like ordering from newegg and found this keyboard for cheaper from other places, why not order from the other places?

Also most of these problems that you are having with newegg aren't neweggs fault at all. Its the product companies fault.

One more also, when you complained to newegg about the "open" mousepad and they refunded you $15 dollars, did they let you keep the mousepad?

No I never hated newegg...I wanted so bad to love them! I continued to buy more and more from them thinking that there was some reward or benefit for dealing with newegg since they are considered a great company.

But after spending the past 2 hours at eggxpert talking to folks in the chat room, i have realized that I was being a bit too optimistic as to how these big online retailers are being run and what they stand for.

Newegg is just another buy in bulk cheapest item, resell to customers with main intent on profits at any cost. I was under the false misconception that the egg cares if there are hardcore pc hobbyists that are very upset with their service, really...they couldnt care less I have come to realize.

The rant is over...but maybe someone can find use in my experience.

Perhaps the days of companies that actually care about their reputation and dedication to excellence over the quick overturn of some cash $$$ is long over. The way of the future is buy a ton of stuff as cheap as possible with no concern for quality...sell it at normal price, and deal with the fallout from angry customers by hiring a large staff of ex-telemarketers to provide "excellent customer service."

It is a sad reality that there is more profit and growth in having cheap bulk products to sell with many defects while hiring a large staff of customer service reps, rather than dealing with manufacturers directly who will not give the lowest price compared to the bulk sellers.

Rant is over, thanks for coming for the ride

Doing advanced rma tomorrow morning, if the 4th keyboard in a row is defective or something wrong with it...I will laugh hysterically.

and yep they did refund my mousepad and let me keep it. But to be fair...they did charge me a separate 6 dollars shipping on that 14.99 mousepad.

That is why the cust service rep credited me that 15 bucks...cause it wouldve been rediculous for me to pay return shipping on that thing again.

Could your ambient temperatures explain this? There is significant variation in cooling performance with video cards. As long as your temperatures don't exceed safe operating parameters for your video card, you don't really have anything to complain about. Also, most people lie on forums when bragging about how fast / cool / sexy their components are.

I used to be something of a Razer fanboy, but their quality has fallen off the entire Earth and is rapidly approaching light speed somewhere near Andromeda. For serious, they must think that it's all right to throw up jagerbombs into a box and it's all right so long as they put a Razer sticker inside and give the product a cool, carnivorous name.

Newegg should not be faulted in any way.

Tape came unglued, you complained, they refunded your money and let you keep the product just to keep you satisfied? Are you sure this happened? If so, are you sure this belongs in your rant? Isn't there a 'scratching my head in obvious confusion' smiley?

Did it say 'Newegg' on it? If no, then not a Newegg box. Simple as that. Perhaps it was damaged in route and repacked by the shipper. And you really can't use the arrival time to determine who shipped a package.

I've looked at the pictures, and it's not apparent, but this is where you play the dissatisfied customer card. If you aren't happy with what you received, and it's possible that it could be because of the retailer, give them the opportunity to fix the problem. Most of us have had nothing but positive experience with Newegg, including you, so contact them and see if you can get it resolved.

Honestly, it seems like you're getting a little more upset than is reasonable. In the end, Newegg will probably refund your money if you ask them to, and you won't have to burden them with satisfying you any more if that's the route you choose. Until then, just relax a bit. Try cleaning your new keyboard; it's refreshing.

Your rant seems a little extreme. Sounds to me that newegg did the right thing with your issues and that your issues are with Razer and UPS, not newegg
