To those wondering why I would continue to stay with newegg despite my intense frustration, it is because I really don't see anything else better out there in terms of online pc retailers.

My alternatives are amazon or buy.com, both of which have way worse customer service and yet have the same potential for mishaps that have happened to me in this recent time.

The other option that I have been contemplating is:
http://www.jr.com/brand/das/

I live 20 minutes from the warehouse that ships the egg's items to me...yet I pay 9-12 dollars shipping and a sales tax for being in-state.

J&R is in manhattan, NY and yet they offer free shipping on these das keyboards.

J&R is the only retailer that I can see taking me away from the egg right now...because they actually have a physical retail store in addition to warehouses and online orders.

J&R has one of the best reputations that I know of when it comes to electronics retail, but how does their online retail system fare?

Anyone got any experiences ordering stuff from online J&R? Its very appealing to be able to just drive into the city and exchange something instead of waiting around for ups to come, not knowing what lurks inside.

J&R is the only physical big retailer that I know of that carries almost everything that amazon and egg do, and they carry it all instore which is pretty cool.

Blah im rambling...damn this das keyboard! Why must these cherry browns tickle my funny bones?

If the keyboard worked fine and great as advertised and I liked it I wouldn't even complain. Newegg hasn't been great to me but I'm just the kind of person where if I buy something and it works as described and I'm satisfied by it, I keep it.

I remember I ordered a case from newegg and it looked like it had been dropped or something. The whole side was dented in on the motherboard tray. I was bummed and wasn't looking forward to RMA it, so I just hammered it out and everything worked fine. I was satisfied by the case it was a really nice one for my matx build. All that's left is a tiny little chink from the dent on the edge but really I'm not that picky.

Just my 2 cents

yea i hear ya man...and I myself am not THAT crazy anal about perfectionism (maybe a little smile.gif

But I do get ticked off when for 15+ years ive been buying cheap logitech keyboards and mice, that have made me accustomed to insanely high quality control.

I was using a logitech elite keyboard before getting these mechanicals which are 4-5 times as expensive. Guess what...that logitech keyboard still works perfect to this day 8-9 years later after i got it. Its got cigarette burns in it, I have NEVER cleaned it even one time, and I dropped it on the floor so many times I dont even know how the thing hasn't died on me yet. Oh and it has been thrown across the room at me many times by the girlfriend during WoW sessions back in the day. =P

Imagine what goes through my mind being used to a cheap keyboard that is as good as it was on day one 8 years later even though going through hell and back, and I see a brand new shiny razer blackwidow utimate in all it's glory...complete with flickering and burned out backlights along with inconsistent key quality.

My logitech elite even has melted plastic on the spacebar cause i fell asleep holding a cigarette while on my computer once...I woke up to see tnat i melted off part of my space bar. Also, I always smoked cigarettes while holding that logitech elite on my lap, so 70% of the time i would forget to ash and the cigarette ash would fall right onto the keyboard filling its little insides. Never cleaned it even once, not even canned air.

I wish they made stuff as good as this keyboard nowadays =)

Want a Das keyboard? Buy from Das . . .

Free shipping, great service, cheap prices, education discount if you can get it. Nowhere close to a better option out there.

Scary, I'm ordering over $500 in merchandise this month from the Egg. Hopefully I don't get anything like this.

I doubt you will have a problem but I have had nothing but amazing service from their company and had a few cases of broken things ( Keyboard, Memory 2 times bad CPU ) and they didn't give me a problem once and took care of everything. Also you have to remember sometimes it isn't their fault something gets damaged.

Is what that great?

And imo don't let this thread sway you from the Egg. Almost everyone on OCN uses them, and has no complaints. Bad things happen every once in a while, like with all companies, but for the most part they're the best.
