Damn they are using the popularity of Battlefield to market their own gamestore service. This is horrible because EA is known for banning people's account for criticism on their forums.

For the record, my BFBC2 was bought through EADM. That game isn't all that old. But yet, I have no possible way to re download my game now, as its non existant in my games list. Yeah, that's absolutely wonderful and a great way to make me want to spend more money over there.

Only reason it still happens to work is because I backed up the files and key locally.

You make BF3 sound like the end all be all of all games. I'll just play Deus Ex or Skyrim and absolutely not give a damn about BF3, seriously.

You might love steam, but it is nothing but a tool to me, and an annoying tool alot of the time.

Origin already has steam beat, its called battlefield 3. Origin has it, steam doesnt. I respect developers, not 3rd party distributors. I buy games in spite of their Steam requirement, and i buy games in spite of their gamespy(thats you borderlands) requirement. Ill do the same for origin.
To be fair Valve is not just a 3rd part distributor but a developer, so... yeah. Also I DO respect them as a distributor. People who haven't worked as a reseller take it for granted that you can walk into a store or go online and just buy whatever you want at usually a good price. There is a lot of work that goes into managing inventories, keep the right products in stock, etc.

Same thing goes with digital distribution. I realize there are people out there who don't like Steam. To be honest if Good Old Games sold new titles without DRM and available on any computer I owned I would buy ALL my games there. In the meantime Steam has really come a long way, they introduce a lot of indie games I would never have had access to, they offer great community and friends features, they keep my games patched and updated unless I configure it otherwise, etc. Steam loses half of its appeal if I have to start installing multiple other clients. This is something we'll just have to live through as digital distribution becomes the main way games are sold. Hopefully we'll one day get into a situation where publishers release their games on ALL platforms and let customers decide through which service to buy the game. The developer still gets paid either way.

EDIT: At least one user is reporting nothing but problems with Origin:

But why would I need ANOTHER program running, for just this one game?
Are you a hypocrite? you're supporting steam which has dozens if not hundreds of games that aren't available anywhere else or require it to function.

Also, by your own admission your argument for Steam's right to be is the same one you're bashing for Origin's.

Hypocrite.

And all this on a rumor...

He and I will agree that it would be great if Valve also released their games on other digital distribution platforms. That being said for people who are already invested in a platform like Steam, which is definitely a better service than Origin right now, we don't want a second client.

I'll let you guys duke this one out. Fact is, I buy games for the fun, innovation, and excitement of the title, not because of what client its attached to. I could care less, its the game that matters to me....
