No not pertaining to the original question, in his pictures its slots 1 and 5 not 1 and 4 as it is in your picture, which shamino posted like a long time ago, its explains the bypass pretty well, now i can save it for later reference, thank you.

BTW its fast in most cases but not all, that is why you can still run at 16x/16x on the other slots.

So if I have a card in the top slot and then slot 16_3 and the put a 3rd card to power secondary screens in 16_2, should that work???

it depends on how many cards you have in most cases going in slots 1 and 5 is best.

So tried that out and had a xonar sound card and other video card that powers 2 other monitors (8400gs) in the other 2 slots and my bottom GTX580 stopped working.

yea there are only 32 PCI-E lanes from the GPU, you are pulling on a lot of them. And yea it would be 1 and 4 i think like the OP said.
