2600K Cooling

Thread Starter
Hello everyone.
Today i reached 4900MHz on my i7-2600K instead of 4600 as i usually got.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1868698

I faced the problem of cooling. I use CM V6GT for 4600MHz speed, 30 idle / 60 full-load. But it can't help me to get stability on 4900.
Neither noctua nh-d14 or thermalright silver arror can't help me as far as i know. Also i'm a bit afraid of water, cause you can't buy anything really good in Russia related with this way of cooling.
Any suggestions are appreciated )

p.s. and please don't ask me why i wanna stay 4900 but not 4600

try lowering the vcore to around 1.45 for 4.9ghz, it seems that the voltage is a little high for that overclock. What are you using for stability testing?

Check my sandy stable thread on my sig, a lot have managed to get around 4.8/4.9ghz with 1.45 or less.

The Noctua or SA ought to get you to 4.9GHz (but they sure are huge and ugly)....

I use AIDA 64 Extreme Stress Test and just play Crysis Warhead for 1-2 hours. As practice shows, this is usually enough.
So i will try 4900 @ 1.45V now) Thanx

I would highly recommend running prime95 for a few hours but if you feel that AIDA64 is enough then each to their own

Also try working your way down from 1.45v for 4.9ghz and watch the temps, ideally you want to be below 80c for 24/7 but personally I like to keep my temps below 70c.

Good Luck let us know how you get on.

Finally, i tried:
4900 MHz (49x100)
1.45V Vcore. (less = bsod while win7 booting)
Using AIDA64Extreme stress test - i got 74 degrees. Asus fan exprert program senson showed same 74.
Cpu fan speed - 100% (2250 rpm x 2 120mm fans)

Ultimately: 4900 MHz / 1.45 Vcore / CM V6GT / 74 Degree Full-Load => means that CM V6GT can not handle the load.
Looking forward for 5+ GHz and water-cooling.
Sorry for my bad language, haven't slept for ages

Additionally, my default frequency / temp:
4600 (46x100) / 1.35 Vcore / CM V6GT / 61 Degree Full Load.
Cooler Master HAF932 Case.

So i can recommend CM V6GT for i5-i7 common users
But don't forget to change stock fans in avoid noise

Give Intel Burn Test a try on High Settings

http://majorgeeks.com/IntelBurnTest_d5987.html

Watch your temps though

I wouldnt run this with your 5.2 oc though, back it down before you try IBT.

Lol, well done. Actually, on your 4900MHz with 1.45 and 74 max load, it seems fine. Just don't let it go above 80 on full load. When you will be gaming your CPU won't use 100% on all cores, so the temps shouldn't reach 74 degrees when you are gaming and so on. Good luck with the 5.2GHz. You actually seem to be getting quite nice temps on your V6GT.
