Two GPU No SLI Triple Monitor?

Thread Starter
So I'm on my sig rig that has a GTX 580 in it and I want to use 3 monitors but don't have the money for another 580 for SLI. frown.gif

So my question is, I have an extra GeForce 6800, could i pop it in just for the extra display port without any problems and do the triple monitor setup I wanted or can this not be done? Thanks OCN biggrin.gif

It wouldn't work for nvidia surround. But wouldn't just adding a monitor work just fine?

Ah, yeah, forgot to mention. No 3D involved, just a regular old monitor setup with extended desktop, etc.

No, sorry. Only AMD can do that on one card. The 6800 would be treated as a separate device and the monitor would not display unless you chose it as your default output.

someone who has tried this can totally correct me if I'm wrong. This would be like using a display on your PhysX card.

Are you saying this would give someone a triple monitor desktop?

What about playing a game that would span across all 3 monitors, would it take an fps hit of any sort or anything like that?

I have done this with a dual monitor setup and it does work. (1 monitor on my 580, another on the 6800 as a separate device.) No problems were found, played games as usual. Just don't know about triple.

That is what you wouldn't be able to do. Pretty sure spanning your desktop across three monitors would work, but for gaming you could only span two.
