Even if the game wasn't in full-screen? What if it was manually extended over in a windowed mode? Wouldn't it just display it while in reality my 580 was running it?

Desktop works just fine for 2d applications- I have a GTX460 and a 9400 in my rig... works great.

I just disable the other monitors when gaming.

Let me try a windowed game...

Nope. That won't work (edit: I'm almost positive)

But you've got the gear, might as well try it

Interesting results- I ran half life 2 across the split of my main GPU and my secondary (crappy) GPU.

THe main GPU did all the work, and barely worked the secondary, though the load on the secondary should have been 100%. What this means? I dont know. Note, it did jump a bit, but it was windowed and I didnt look into it all that much. I suggest trying it out, but dont expect any games to work on the secondary GPU's displays well.

The photo has HL2 and evga pecision. GPU1 is my main GPU, GPU2 is the 9400 (or whatever it is) (Its VERY wide- a triple monitor setup does that)

Sorry, couldnt upload it anywhere convinient at full size. In evga precision there are 4 graphs. The top two are temperature, the bottom two are load. You can see the thurd- the main gpu- is doing all the work, while the last graph, the second gpu, stays under 10%

Spanning 2 monitors ... is different from spanning 3, which is what he's wanting to do

Edit: I mean, it *may* be possible to get it to show on all three, but the only way to do so would involve creating an image that's so grossly stretched that it would look terrible. Because I'm 99% sure you will not be able to use a resolution larger than the two monitors your 580 is hooked up to no matter what, so it's only by stretching that image to +50% larger that you fill all the screen real-estate. And any image that's stretched 50% ... is gonna look really horrible. And you won't get any wider a field of view than what you get on two monitors either.

Can you try spanning it across all 3 and post results?

Yes, sorry, it is just HL2 doesn't support resizing... I would have to run a custom resolution. Let me find a game that works for that. I may have to wait until tomorrow.. (It is getting late) - But I will leave this tab up!

I had always heard even spanning two monitors would not work... though my surprise when I tested.

you can stick it in for an extra display BUT, from personal experiance the slower cadr WILL slow the 580's down... it is really not worth it at all.

Ah, ok. I see now. Wouldn't want any stretching so I guess it can't be done. Correctly anyway. Thanks!

I have a PLP Monitor setup (20x30x20). I use my SLI GTX580 to power the 30 inch and I have a cheapo dual dvi 8400gs powering the 20 inch monitors. No problems at all.
