Is World of Warcraft worth checking out?

Thread Starter
I have heard so much about it, yet I have never tried it. It turned one of the smartest people in my school into a vegetable though. He gained 40 pounds in a school year when he started WoW, and his grades dropped pretty significantly!

Nevertheless, it is summer, and I need a game to play that will run on a Macbook Pro, since I am going to Sweden on Saturday. Should I start playing it?

Lots of haters will chime in and say no, but I think its a great game... As far as MMOs go, its #1, and with the newest expansion the leveling to get near end game is fairly quick and painless. Very little grind feeling.

Be warned, if you don't own any of the games, its going to cost you a bit to get all the way to max level ($20 for Vanilla, $20 for BC, $40 for WoTLK, $40 for Cataclysm) and then $15 monthly unless you purchase your monthly plan in larger increments.

If you decide to play: I play Horde on Boulderfist realm. Feel free to friend me on Clownie or Deafkanight

It's worth it. I enjoyed it, the leveling is fun, end game gets boring, but that takes awhile to get there.

Just have to take it in moderation. You can easily lose hours in that game.

I'd say it's too expensive and not worth it.

lol to the Op, Sorry, but that doesn't happen to those that know how to play in moderation.

I've played on and off since 2005. I resub, play a bit, see what's new for a month or so and then take another break. It's ok to pick up and go, just don't get immersed into it like you have no control or something. If you have a hard time quitting something (ie: if it turns addicting), then ya might not wanna bother with it. It takes a little willpower to know when too much is just too much, ya'know ?

Like, keep yer bills paid, keep up with grades, etc, etc. BUT, this can be almost any game out there since I've seen people play CoD series for 8-12 hours straight!

If you can handle that, you'll be fine, it's a good game, even for it's time, they're always updating it. OCN seems to have a WoW hate bandwagon though, so not many will recommend it.

I enjoyed it for what it was a few years ago, but if you are looking to experience a lot of content (you should, for what you pay!) it might be a bit hard to do with the level cap being so high these days
I am a sucker for Blizzard games, have been since Diablo 1 & Warcraft 2. If you like any of their games, you will really enjoy this one

it was ok. i would start off just buying WoW and none of the expansions and play that till you feel like you like it. i only played for 2.5 months on and off. i quit for 2 reasons, 1 i dont like subscriptions to well and 2 blizzard pissed me off to no end numerous times.

Its a good game, if you have any friends playing its really fun. If not look for a good guild, the game isn't really fun if you are by your self

It's actually very easy to level nowdays, they practically hold your hand on quests. lol No more days of wondering around aimlessly looking for the bosses or area's, dungeons, npc's. They literally put them on the map! I miss the old vanilla WoW, but it's still not bad, just a lot easier.
