mSATA vs mPATA

Thread Starter
So, I bought a new SSD to replace the damaged one in my Dell Mini 9..

And now, I find out that I bought the wrong one! Quite unlike me..

Apparently, the Mini 9 uses mPATA and I bought mSATA.

But looking at the drives, the connectors seem identical..

It even fit perfectly inside the netbook.

So, are they compatible with each other, or is it a weird case where the pins line up but it still won't work?

mSata and mini PCI-E use the same amount of pins and the same sized connector but they are incompatible with each other.

Which drive did you buy btw?

Kingspec 32GB off eBay.

Good thing is, the seller is super-nice, bad thing is.. I can't even begin to understand his address (in China). If I wrote it here, you literally wouldn't believe me.

P.S. I can't read Deutsch.

Dude, it's like "derp51twaphar84moland".

I asked the guy again, he confirms it.

Where's the street name? Where's the house number/apartment floor?

Also, I'm not going to translate Tom's. That's like buying an American-made croissant and having it shipped to France.

I made the same mistake, I bought a Mini sata PCI-E for my DELL 6500, I installed it and system did not recognize the drive. I contacted the website I bought it from and after I told them what device I used it turned out I should have bought the mSATA version of the mini PCI-E, easy mistake. They offered a replacement right away and the refunded my shipping cost.
