As for the CPU usage, I wouldn't have the slightest clue
GeForce 7025 is pretty crappy. It doesn't do any hardware acceleration so the load will be handled pretty much solely by the CPU.

That said, recording OTA should place little to no load on the CPU. Digital ATSC broadcasts are already encoded in MPEG-2. You're basically just writing those streams to your HDD when you record. No encoding is taking place. The HVR-1250 doesn't have a hardware MPEG-2 encoder but you only need that if you're recording analog anyway.

Heck, my lowly Atom/ION build was capable of playing back Blu-ray rips while recording 4 HD streams at the same time (I've got 4x HDHomeRun's/8 tuners total shared amongst the HTPC's). It's actually the HDD that can barely keep up with the load. Alas, the HDD partition needed to be near empty and formatted with 64K sectors or I'd get snow.

Little Update:

I found a cheaper cpu on ebay, better case (bit more expensive but much better looking heh) and upgraded ram to 4Gb.

$35+6.75ship - Athlon II X2 245 2.9GHz on Ebay (this time including heatsink/fan).
$33.99 - Upgraded to G.SKILL Value Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 1333
55.99+11.99Ship - IN WIN BK644 Black ECO Steel MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case 300W Power Supply
29.99 - HVR-1250 Tuner Card (I already have 1 so that makes 2) on Ebay.
49.99 - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive
60.99+7.56ship - (Open Box) ASUS M4A88T-M LE AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
-----------
293.25 Total All Shipped

This is a complete HTPC with 1 tuner card for under $300, might have to get a diff PSU (will try with stock first, heard good things about it on reviews).

Will the 300W PSU that comes with the Case be enough ?

I upgraded the memory to allow the max possible via bios to onboard video, this way I can still use 32bits (3.2-3.3GB in 32bits + 512 for onboard = very little waste).

Of course, comments, advices are all welcome!

300w is plenty for what you have. Don't know anything about that PSU, but it looks like a standard size ATX PSU in the pics. If so it is easy to replace.

With those parts, actual power consumption is likely around 80W max doing normal HTPC tasks. Even if that's not a true 300W PSU, you're probably fine.

Thread Starter
Well, because of an error on my part (changing the motherboard at the last minute heh) I had to order a different CPU and selling my hvr-1250 and getting a hvr-2250 (2 tuners in one so I don't have to split my already weak signal).

I will be starting a new thread once I get all my parts for the building of the htpc. This thread and content still show how to build a viable htpc for under $300 uncluding tuner card, hope it'll help someone, thanks for all the replies
