Let's say 20% max of the users who buy one of those 850W PSUs will ever go with 580 SLI and I think that number is high anyway I currently have 7 drives in my PC ( 5 * 2 TB, 2 * 1 TB) for ex and I will be able to handle another 570.

But we are getting off-track here, like almost everyone did most of this thread If someone is thinking about SLI of 580s in the future and he says that, of couse we will recommend a 850+. But if the guy is building a game rig, doesn't have any decent plans for SLI and he wants a good PSU, why bother with 850 W ones ?

(5) total HDD's

Seasonic x650 (80+Gold w/ pwm fan) (Fan RARELY ever turns on, except when gaming for 1+ hour.)

I recommend higher watt PSUs to people who may want to upgrade in the future. If people plan on keeping their PC around for 3 years, a higher watt PSU will likely be needed for that GTX 880, or whatever.

And by higher watt, I mean 750-850. Not 1000 or whatever.

I dunno about you but I recommend a Silverstone 1500w if you are running a gtx460. Those things are crazy power hungry.

My god this thread is long for only being a couple days old...

Ive got a story relevant here. Ive got a 1000w power supply running a sempron 140 with 4x Sapphire 5850 Xtreme video cards, running at full load pulling 680w from the wall. I bought 4 more 5850s and tried using my 700w OCZ GameXStream to power it, and I can run 2 cards, but not 3... The system shuts right off. REFUSES to run a third card, much less a 4th. Im finding power supplies with multiple rails to be a PITA, and that power supplies with one massive 12v rail to work very well. So for relevance to this thread, having a 700w+ power supply means nothing depending on what kind of draw you have on it. Be careful when configuring your build to know what sort of power draw you need, and what the PSU can handle, especially dealing with 1+ 12v power rail.

If some one asks what PSU to use to say...crossfire 5850s I say a PSU that has at least 54 amps on the 12v+ rail(s). If it is a bigger card you just need to add a few more amps. Smaller, then subtract a few.

Single card setups don't ussually have too many questions about PSUs that I have seen. Though there I would prabably say 25-30 amps in a PSU that is under 600w. A strong 12v rail is a sign of quality in my experience.
A PSU can have alot of +12v capacity and still suck.

1500w for a GTX 460? C'mon... you'd be stressing that PSU far too much.
