I am now playing COD Modern Warfare 2 (from 2009) because I bought it cheaper on one of the Steam sales a few days ago. If it wasn't for the cheaper price I wouldn't have bought it. When I began playing I tought to myself: yep, those guys that said this engine is dated are right. The COD 4: MW from 2007 actually looks more coherent. With MW2 you have a mish-mash of horrible low res textures, stactic and pixelated sky, laughable backgrounds - in the favelas chapter, the Rio de Janeiro background and in the oil rig chapter, those Icebergs, I almost laughed at how crude it was. They just didn't care. Along with some very questionable color matching choices - or lack thereof - and, to give them credit, some effort in trying to make the lighting better, all makes a very generic FPS game. It's not bad, but they know the name sells...
(extension of concept) Something that happens on every COD release, textures get worse as graphics get "better". Now, how can that be possible? These games are based around console releases, so in order to create more texture surfaces they have to reduce texture size. You can do this with either repeating textures or taking down their bit/depth.
Why? Because of the physical limitations, so every COD series gets WORSE. I find this incredibly funny because I shouldn't be able to tell, I have the old school "color blindness" which is now "color impaired" (as I can see colors but missing spectrums). I find that sad, so many people can't tell the difference between texture quality, it makes me angry beyond belief.
What else happens every COD release? Textures load slightly slower, due to how they load textures. You can WATCH the textures load on MW (orig). Seriously, how can you say something is amazing when at the start of every match you can watch the textures load? Sit down and look, unless your on a PC this happen every time.
So many glitches in COD that I could go into and yet every game gets a good review (paid reviews?).

If the majority of people think it is bad, you can form an opinion. Of course it is subjective, EVERYTHING is, but you have to make judgements on subjective accounts. That is what reviews are all about, and why you should never just read one.
That is just good advice, really good advice. I really hate how COD and Halo have ruined reviewers. They hold most games up to those expectations, which is a very military like style and shouldn't be what defines a genre.

Don't get me started on Game play.
Bulletstorm was crap, utter crap. I wouldn't buy bulletstorm with my friends hooker money. No, just not going to happen. It's a terribly cheesy and lame ripoff of GOW. You really don't ever fire your weapon, at least not on the harder difficulties. You can't, you have to use the kick/environment kills to get past most of the difficult stuff. Which was even more lame when they made the enemy slow down, just make them slow to start and put a kickme sign on the back.
Unless of course you sat there and tip-toed your way through the game. Which I don't personally believe FPS shooters were made for that. If you want to inch your way through a game get an RPG, FPS was ment for blood, gore, and guts!
The colors were washed out intentionally so that they could give it a good looking high def feel with specific lighting (the same effects were used in other games). It's just a trick to make it look "good". Not to mention the low lighting, another trick to use with when you have washed out colors.
If you hate how DNF has crappy things to solve... What gets more annoying than having to use a grapple to hit switches or move a ladder just to get past something? Seriously, why the heck even put it in the game? Depth? Story? Challenge? I don't know, because it's so easy.
It really was a very crappy version of GOW with environment kills, a very very washed out version. I seriously think they just wanted to make a drunk GOW, that's about it.
[washed out textures] A game that used washed out textures to make it look amazing was Dead Space. Honestly, it pulled off the effects 100x times better. I can't think of others, though I know there are some (usually I just hated them). The PC version of Bulletstorm isn't so bad, but they are still washed out intentionally.
Oh man, I just don't like people who say something is amazing and don't even realize how terrible the game is. I know what's wrong with DNF, I'll admit it's bad points. I hate the loading times, especially since you wait to load
re-load after a checkpoint (most games do it pretty instantly). The graphics are pretty low par and the driving scenes were a bit long. The enemies are ridiculously hard on the other difficulties, mainly because you get 2 freaking guns. Which I hate. Though overall the game is just what I expected, and it isn't that bad.
It's refreshing from this rampage of COD esk games that suck major balls. Or even worse, GOW style 3rd person shooters that still suck major balls. GOW is ok, for that style, that's about it. You have no real skill required for those games, which is sad. I walk into GOW online matches and dominate, I don't even own the game (SAD). I'm eagerly awaiting RAGE too, because it isn't defined or held back by the COD style. They too want something different which is already causing people to call the game stale. What most people don't realize is that the COD style is just a blip in FPS, a very new addition to an old style.
I also don't know how people can enjoy something like, oh I don't know Serious Sam and not like this. Serious Sam is the worst game for "style". You have big guns and a crap ton of guys on extremely linear maps. Though it does make for some fun mindless killing. =)
An good terrible review of Bulletstorm
He brought up something that I forgot, how linear and repetitive half the game is. Or is it 3/4s the game? I don't know, it's so repetitive that I could of sworn the intro cut scene was the ending one.Edited by mushroomboy - 6/17/11 at 10:14am
