Played the demo and checked out out some gameplay vids. The game is awful. If it did not have the "Duke Nukem" name attached to it this would be one of those $19.99 bargain bin releases. This thing is not worth $60.

As to the game having overall negative reviews, it's not true either. First you have to distinguish between platforms. The PC version is doing better with 56, the PS3 also with 56 and the Xbox with 48 currently. Actually, this last score changed since the Ars writer wrote the article in the thread; it was at 49.

So, yes, it's a pass (almost a pass in the Xbox 360's case), and it's mediocre, and therefore in the middle ground of the scale, but it's not bad. Bad, I repeat, would be if it got 10% or 20 or even 30%. Perhaps I didn't make it clear that by middle ground I meant this distinction between what is bad and what is mediocre, but still a pass. I'm not reinventing the wheel, by the way, this is the way reputed magazines have been reviewing games for decades.
I don't know what you are looking at, but for Xbox only, a 48 is BAD. Even Metacritic disagrees with you.

Also since when does "middle ground" ≠ average? I mean if you want to look at it from a statsitical point of view, you can argue against it, but in vernacular terms, the two usually means the same.

You are quoting the Xbox 360 alone (and I agree you with you on that one, in case you didn't notice), I quoted the other two platforms as well, where it is doing better than 50%. If you want to carefully avoid that, it's your problem.

Furthermore, I clarified that by middle ground I meant middle ground on the scale (of 0 to 100). Are you really arguing with me as a mod or as an anti-fan of the game by the way?

In my book, a review of 50% bad is a pass.

Yes, the PC is doing marginally better than the consoles, 5% better. That is almost insignificant IMO. You can argue that it is insurmountably mediocre and not BAD, but I'd pass on that too. Honestly, the reviews only solidified how I felt about the release. I think the writing was on the wall.

Just speaking on the pass and review part, I haven't played the game so I can't give a first hand.

Here's the state of games in 2011.

It seems to be the same thing on every developers plate.

I understand, but I thought this thread was about the Xbox only? If you want to talk about PC and PS3, go ahead, but that will be OT. Which is why I never said anything about those platforms...

Oh I haven't even played the game yet; only parts of the demo. I actually liked it. I'm just flabbergasted that you would consider a 50% comprehensive rating "middle of the road".

Sorry, Dead Island focuses on melee combat, shouldn't be included. And yes, shooters are going to have, gasp, guns that you aim down.

Funny though.
