[Ars] - [Updated] Duke Nukem's PR threatens to punish sites that run negative reviews - Page 8

After playing the game. I thought it was great! (and yes, I've played every Duke game)

The graphics look nice, controls are great, I laughed my ass off through more than half of the game. Mutiplayer is alright, but that's not what I got the game for. It's always been about the Singleplayer.

Quite frankly there are too many butthurt CODtards that say the game sucks because the graphics and multiplayer aren't like COD.

WELL, THAT'S BECAUSE IT ISN'T COD DAMNIT.

IT'S DUKE NUKEM. -AND HIS TRUE FANS KNOW THAT DNF PROVIDED.

After 14 years of hype only to churn out a typical generic FPS you can't blame the critics for being, well, critical. In my eyes its like I'm playing an updated version of the 1997 shooter, which is a somewhat refreshing change. I expected an entertaining game and I got an entertaining game.

This is why Red Dead Redemption isn't out for the PC.
Too many people were too lazy to tweak GTA4 on their own to get it to work well,
so they do what all the lazy people do.
Hate the companies, BIG TIME. So, what did R* do? No RDR for PC. Simple.

STOP FREAKING WHINING

You bought the game, so if it's bad, you have no one to blame but yourself; it was your choice to buy it. The companies didn't send you a virus that installed it on your PC.

The companies don't owe you anything, you are buying the product from choice.

Good article though

If you buy something and it is bad, you have every right to complain. Otherwise, everything would be terrible. Yes, you should be more knowledgeable about your purchases, but complaining about it enables others to do just that.

Now you shouldn't expect your money back or anything.

That's why you should wait till the day after it comes out to read the reviews. I spent days researching my sig rig. I couldn't be happier now. Effort + Research = Profit.

COD has great graphics ? LOLOLOL You are in need of playing a few more games.

I am now playing COD Modern Warfare 2 (from 2009) because I bought it cheaper on one of the Steam sales a few days ago. If it wasn't for the cheaper price I wouldn't have bought it. When I began playing I tought to myself: yep, those guys that said this engine is dated are right. The COD 4: MW from 2007 actually looks more coherent. With MW2 you have a mish-mash of horrible low res textures, stactic and pixelated sky, laughable backgrounds - in the favelas chapter, the Rio de Janeiro background and in the oil rig chapter, those Icebergs, I almost laughed at how crude it was. They just didn't care. Along with some very questionable color matching choices - or lack thereof - and, to give them credit, some effort in trying to make the lighting better, all makes a very generic FPS game. It's not bad, but they know the name sells...

You argument is incongruent. If they want the game to be well acepted on the PC, they should optimse it for the PC. That's why people like consoles, it's simpler.

A game is supposed to be fun, you're not supposed to tweak for hours in order to get it to actually run in the first place, preferably smoothly, and not crash.

It's funny you mention GTA IV because it is probably the most famous example of a badly optimised engine for the PC, which adding to that, was riddled with bugs that had to be patched - nothing a user could do about that unless he had the source code to patch the bugs himself. And even today it is a slow game, it needs a powerful computer to play it maxed out with decent framerates.

On the other hand, back to topic, you have more reviewers complaining the Xbox 360 version of Duke Nukem Forever is worse, and to a lesser degree, also the PS3, than the PC version, which seems to be the best of the three, for both professional reviewers and individual gamers.

How about that ? Could it be that the Xbox 360 and PS3 users are lazy and need to do some tweaking and stop whining ? Maybe the developers should stop making games for the consoles because of lazy sofa consolers.. oh wait...

I do somewhat agree with you though on your last argument. People should have waited. But it's also curious that they didn't make the demo publicly available, except for a select few who had bought another game. What sounded like exclusiveness, now may sound they were not confident enough in the finished product in the first place.

But in the end, everybody has the right to complain. That's also how games can get better. Customer feedback.

Indeed voices must be heard, but sometimes it is too far.
Either way, good argument, sir
